Questions & Answers

If a dry half cup is re-weighed, what is its volume ?

Adding a cup of hot water should cause it to double in size in about 12 minutes, at least as far as I am concerned.

Cans spoil once they are opened, so how long do you have to consume it ?

In an advertisement, it was stated that they remain good for at least 10 months after opening the can. Putting the 3 ounces - which is a good serving for two - in the food saver bag is my personal practice. If they are made that way, they will last forever. You can fit approximately 3 dry weight ounces on each package if you use the entire can for 8 two-person servings. When these are rehydrated, browned on one side, flipped over, and several eggs are cracked on top as the bottom part browns, I am in heaven. If you add a little ketchup to this, you will have a breakfast feast that will keep you going.

Open the cans easily or do they require much effort? The can openers, whether they are manual or electric, are said to be ?

Since I had read that, I also purchased a Swing-type video camera A WAY To Make It Easy - Open #10 lb cans with this crank can opener made for that purpose. Under $10 was the price I paid on Amazon.

This potato shreds work well and are good to have on hand
4/5

The only downside is that they have to be rehydrated. The water usage advice they give you is a bit excessive. In order to achieve the BEST results, cover the potatoes in hot (almost boiling) water and let them Once that is done, they will be cooked to the perfect consistency and can be used to make restaurant-quality hash.

This product is amazing! I highly recommend it! It is a product I use both for emergency situations as well as for everyday purposes
5/5

The only person I have to cook for is myself since I am an elderly person. Since I don't do a lot of cooking, potatoes tend to spoil before I can For use as well as for emergencies, I've decided it's lower overall for me to buy my dried potatoes and vegetables in bulk. As I only have to hydrate what I plan to eat, I don't have to worry about storage or running to the store every time I want to buy fresh veggies. I did not need to keep a freezer because I didn't use my prepared foods or my frozen purchases.

6 out of 1 The other half dozen are also half a dozen
4/5

so first I must say, they taste great, and you can hardly tell once they're made that they're not just regular potatoes. I think that is the right way to do it, and these are nice! You might want to keep these in your pantry if you need to keep food stores for religious or political reasons. These aren't time savers as it relates to prep time. The 6 of one, the half dozen of another refer to prep time. I could just as easily have started with a couple fresh spuds, boiled them in the microwave, grated them into the fry pan, and then fries them that way, rather than having to reconstitute and fry them. I find that if I don't have fresh potatoes on hand, tossing frozen potatoes in boiling water and creating "potatoes ex nihilo", is a great alternative. I like to keep these on hand because they taste great in stews, soups, etc. One can also toss in a handful (or more) of these and the potatoes will absorb the cooking liquid and flavors, making them a great addition to the meal. It was the ONLY reason I didn't give it a perfect 5 star rating? Reconstitution time is the amount of time that it takes. There is nothing that can be changed The only wish I have is that it were shorter. You can count on me to buy these in the future, and I recommend them to others as well.

This is what Waffle House hashbrowns should taste like
5/5

Waffle House hashbrowns are one of my guilty pleasures. I don't know about you, but I really like them. It's like a drug to me, and sometimes they drive me crazy. You can make perfect Waffle House potatoes if you do them just right. They have not come out like these even though I have tried all sorts of ways to do them myself. You can soak them in ice cold water for about 15 minutes at a time while doing other things, then strain them and place You should brown them really well on the one side before turning them over and crisping them up on the other side. Just turn them over It's heaven on a plate for you, my friend. This is the third time I have purchased these and have always been happy with them.

Achieved more than we expected
5/5

When serving in the military, it was pretty common for us to have to consume reconstituted "dry" potatoes, leaving me with a diminished expectation of what these "shreds" would taste like. As I explained in the preparation instructions, I grilled the potatoes with onions, garlic, and salt, then sprinkled with pepper and salt. This is amazing. A big thanks to Augason for wiping out my not so pleasant memory. Rehydrating them gave them a good response, and adding seasoning to them worked well too. The survival food bank is very happy to have this item!.

It was damaged in two places
3/5

I bought two cans of shredded potatoes and both cans were dented in places. I ordered Potato Gems and four cans were significantly dented and four more dented cans were substituted for those dented Why are things the way they are?.

Once that's done, I add some onions to them and do a hash brown
5/5

They become soft in a few minutes if I soak them in warm water first. I then strain the water through a strainer to remove the water. Once that's done, I add some onions to them and do a hash brown. They are very tasty to me, especially when accompanied by some fried eggs. That is what I like about In addition, my wife does as well.

I like the shelf life but I don't like the opening
3/5

The shelf life of this product is likely to be 25 years since it should be practically My first attempt was to use an electric can opener which would not run after a few inches. got a new manual opener and tried it It did not work with any of the 3 old manual openers I tried. Not at all. In the end, I used a knife that had a really sharp edge That's right! I only spent half an hour on it. The water I had just heated began to cool and I had reached the point where my arms were nearly too tired to dig My first use of them was to make farmers breakfast, but I will not do.
