Each ankle brace has an adjustable strap to fit most people.
The compression ankle support can be worn with tennis shoes, dance shoes and flip-flops. My daughter has worn her tennis shoes and ballet shoes. However, one pair of her slip on shoes failed to work, but she has generally had success with the others.
This depends on your shoe size, but I would recommend they try the smallest they carry. Although it didn't help her ankle feel better, my daughter said she was happy with the results. Furthermore, she mentioned that it was difficult to put her cleats on atop of this and over her socks.

Despite my attempts, I haven't been able to find braces small enough to pull her ankle tightly I was very pleased with these! Gymnastics and cheer tumbling are two sports that she wears these for, and she has not suffered any ankle injuries.
