Would a medium or large work better for someone who is 5'8" tall and weighs 150 pounds, or would either work well?

For my son, I purchased a medium. He weighs around 110 pounds and stands just over 5 feet tall, so it's a good fit for him. The large is probably the best option for you.

Is this definitely a size for adults?

My two sons are teenagers who stand over 6 feet tall. It fits both of them, one slim and the other huskier.

When we ordered this for my son, he was roughly the same size as you describe. We gave him a X-ray machine. It was a small size that was perfect for him. Spring and summer lacrosse played well with this shirt. This fall, he'll also be using it.
