My 17-year-old son, who stands at 6' 180 pounds, likes the fit. In the worst-case scenario, you can always exchange it for a Medium if the fit isn't right.

Is it better to be an adult or a child?

I bought the youth size, but I'm not sure if adult sizes are available.

Coverage of the upper body is adequate. My son was saved from a serious injury thanks to the hard plastic shoulder guards. In youth lacrosse, slashing and reckless checking have gotten out of hand - These pads help to compensate for the poor techniques that the new generation of coaches teach or tolerate. Combine these pads with the STX Stallion elbow pads and gloves for a complete look. A medium will fit a typical 9-year-old, and the entire set will cover almost the entire torso.
