Also, croquet is something I'm familiar with. For the past 50 years, I've played backyard croquet. My old equipment was in bad shape, and I knew that with the start of the stay-cation season, I'd have to replace it. We'd be bored at home, so I ordered five sets a month ago and had them shipped to relatives across the country, and I literally bought every set Amazon had. So I paid an extra four bucks or so for these because they were the closest thing I could find on Amazon. There haven't been any reviews yet for the others. In any case, I'm familiar with the game's mechanics. My lawn is in good condition, we don't smash the ball, and we don't abuse the equipment, I promise. Consider this scenario: If we sabotage this, we'll be left with little choice but to watch TV until it's all over. My ball began to split after the tenth game. I continued to use it until it broke in half during game 12. I chose a different ball, assuming it was just a fluke. It started to split today, in only the fifth game I played with it. I swear I'm not doing anything that a normal person wouldn't do. The white caps on the ends of each mallet immediately cracked as well, but who cares; we're just trying to get outside and have some fun. However, it is critical that everyone understands that this game requires the use of a ball. Yes, if I have to, I'll use a tennis ball, but this set is a waste of money right out of the box. If you decide to go this route, I wish you the best of luck. On the review page, I was expecting a link to a picture to download. I'll do my best to figure it out. I believe this is the first Amazon review I've ever written, and I've been receiving two deliveries per week for at least five years.
Do not be alarmed: It's more than a toy for kids. At my grandparents' house, I grew up with a nice croquet set. I was afraid I'd be stuck with a kid's toy because I couldn't afford $200. Not so; This set is fine; it's one of those things I wouldn't have given a second thought to if I hadn't read Amazon croquet set reviews. Mallets have a considerable height. Everything was fine, including the colored stripes, which did not peel off. Don't hesitate to buy.
Once the mallets are assembled, the carrying bag does not hold all of the items. I experimented with putting three heads in one direction and three heads in the opposite direction. Is it really necessary to send a note to the manufacturer? How much would providing enough space have cost? Who wants to have to unscrew the mallet heads on a regular basis?.
Until I started putting the mallets together, I was really excited about this set. The screwing threads don't match up, so I'll have to return it because the 2/6 mallets don't fit together properly. The bag is also not very sturdy, as other reviews have stated. It's made of very thin nylon and has a flimsy zipper, so it won't last the entire summer.
As others have stated, the set does not fit in the bag once assembled. I happen to be one of them. Oh, I'll figure something out, I thought to myself. Nope. To make it all fit, you'd have to disassemble the mallets every time. That doesn't seem like a good idea, especially since the mallets have wood screw in posts. As a kid, I recall playing with mallets that flew off their handles due to the same issue. So yeah. Otherwise, it's a great set, but the carry bag is a dud. Oh, and I set it up in a very rocky and hard area, and the posts didn't split when pounded in, despite the fact that I didn't try to pound them into a rock. When the balls are struck, they roll smoothly and pop satisfyingly.
It appears to be durable enough to withstand children's rough handling. To fit the mallets into the storage bag, you must first disassemble them. Adding a couple of inches to the bag would be great.
When they arrived, the clubs and balls were significantly lighter than we had anticipated. We didn't even bother unpacking The balls or the rest of the items because the first two mallets my husband pulled out and unwrapped were defective! The paint was also applied in a very shabby manner.
This set was purchased because it was reasonably priced and had received over 200 positive reviews. After inspecting it once it arrived, the following was discovered: The internal threading on mallet heads was nearly non-existent on some heads and messed up on others, and handle threading on wood handles looked like it was cut in with a chisel (terrible). When I screwed the handle into the mallet head, it wasn't at a 90-degree angle, but rather about a 5-degree angle. The temperature is ten degrees. A few mallet heads had crooked plastic covers. However I must say, I believe that croquet sets sent by Amazon to me were very poor quality in the original packages. The package was returned to me.
