Threads with a rough texture. Set is very well made.

For adults, what is the appropriate size?

The 32" handles, which are ideal for adults, were my choice. I'm going to get some used mallets and cut them down for the kids.

It's great fun to sit outside and play croquet with friends while drinking a beer or glass of wine. The set is lovely and exactly as it appears.
