This will necessitate the use of your hands as well as the use of at least two brain cells. If you don't already have those, you might want to think twice about buying this item. No, there aren't any pre-cut little squares like in your favorite coloring book; instead, grab a sharp razor blade and a box of band aids and get to work. I will say that the hinges are a little flimsy, but that is to be expected for the price.
The case is extremely well constructed. I was impressed with the quality, especially for the price, and it breezed through TSA security. My purchase was extremely satisfying.
Let me begin by saying that I've been using Pelican cases for personal electronic equipment and at work for large-scale engineering activities for the past 15 years and have never had any quality issues with the Pelican brand of storage cases. With that said, the Vault by Pelican V100 Small Pistol Case has a design flaw in that the lid of the case bows between the hinges and the two coinciding front latches, compromising the case seal due to the case material flexing under pressure. This case should be built without any bowing and with cleanly sealed sides all the way around the perimeter. I was so excited about this case that I took it out of the box and tossed the box before realizing the flaw in the design, so I'm afraid I won't be able to return it. The broken seal in this case is supposed to keep unauthorized access at bay, but the design flaw creates a vulnerability point. Pelican designers could have completely solved this problem by including side latches in this configuration, as they do in their larger Pelican cases, but that would undoubtedly raise the price. As a workaround, I'm going to try using a ratchet strap to see if I can train the case material to return to its proper position and form a tight seal around the case. If that approach proves to be successful, I'll make another comment. This isn't a particularly complicated case. I guess I should have judged my enthusiasm based on the low price point, as I have with the other Pelican cases I've purchased for work. There are a plethora of secure firearm storage case options available, and due to this current design flaw, I strongly advise you to avoid the Vault by Pelican V100 Small Pistol Case.
I would strongly suggest it. This is a fantastic case. I bought it so that I could transport my firearms safely and legally on planes. It was able to be cut precisely to size, and it has good closed cell foam, so I'm confident that the case will protect the contents from any damage, no matter how hard the baggage handlers throw it. br>br>What I like best about this case compared to a standard Pelican case is that the lock holes are reinforced and the latches are much easier to open. This is especially important for air travel because the risk of theft is much higher, especially if it's known that the bag contains a firearm and that it's easy to open after being in a pressurized can. br>br>Overall, I strongly advise you to purchase this case if you have any sensitive or valuable items that you want to keep safe and secure while traveling.
It accommodates a full-size adult. sized pistol in no time. XD- The 9 Service Models and 2 magazines went in without a hitch. br>It must be secured with two locks. It's simple to torque the lid and get things out with only one lock engaged. There has to be a better way to do things. br>I was able to cut the foam, but not as neatly as I would have liked. For a cleaner result than my first attempt, I recommend using a razor. I'm happy with it for the price because it's very heavy duty, sturdy, and stout.
br>br>Because the foam in the cases isn't "pluck and pull," you'll need to cut it. To protect the surface you're cutting on, use the box that comes with the case. Apply tape to the blade of a very sharp knife that is 1/4 inch longer than the thickness of the foam. Insert the knife into the foam and slowly cut along the outline of the items you'll be storing with a sawing motion.
Protection for travel and children (with additional locks). Cutting out the foam was the most difficult part, but if you go slowly and use a sharp blade, even that isn't too difficult. br>br>If I had to find something to complain about, it should have (IMHO) built-in locks, or at least come with some. At the very least, there should be a recommendation for some good locks (i. e. to use with it (rather than Masterlock). I ordered three ABUS 64TI/40 Titalium Aluminum Alloy Padlocks after doing a lot of research on the internet. They appeared to have a good reputation as locks, and were (according to the Internet) the correct size. br>br>However, the articles that mentioned them did say that they were a nice snug fit, with no play, so that they didn't move around and make a noise. Without a doubt! They're a tad too snug. It's good because it makes getting a knife or hacksaw blade under the lid impossible, but it's bad because they have to fit at an angle. It's fine with me. It's just a little strange. br>br>Apart from that, it's a good product. Good buy.
For flying with your carry, a well-built case is essential. On the second layer, the foam appeared to be a little small, which I'm not sure was the manufacturer's intention. Fits an EDC knife, sidearm, four magazines, a Maglula, and three ammo boxes. All of them weighed less than 13 pounds in total. This case has a lot of storage space. The above results are not typical; your results may vary.
