Questions & Answers

How well does this work for skinning goats and deer? Also, how long did the blade go without being sharpened before it needed to be sharpened?

It has a bigger belly than a lot of deer-hunting knives. I've read about moras being used by nearly a dozen hunters online. Moras have been used by combat airborne troops in Afghanistan. br>I haven't tried skinning a deer with it, but I've been using Moras for over 20 years, both carbon and stainless, and their edge is the best combination of sharpness, sharpening ease, and edge retention I've ever used, and I've used a LOT of knives in my 45 years. Moras have the sharpest blades I've ever used, and they're easier to sharpen. That includes the "wonder steels" sold today for 30 times the price, yes, 30 times the price.br>If I were to use this mora for hunting, I'd only carry two of them. That's only twenty-four dollars, and you've got a back-up. You won't need two, but if you forget your sharpening rod, you'll be prepared with a second razor-sharp, incredibly durable knife. And the combined weight of two of these knives is less than that of the majority of single knives carried in the field.

Is it necessary for me to apply any oil?

Although some people prefer to keep their blades lightly oiled, stainless steel blades do not require it.

Is the steel 12c27?

Sanvick Stainless Steel 12c27 is a yes.

Could this be used as a dive knife?

I can only speculate, as I am not a diver, that this would be a good one. It's a great knife, and I'm sure it'll withstand anything you throw at it.

This is my go-to knife for work! Because I prefer a shorter blade (3
5/5

75"), this is my work knife. 6") for tasks that require a lot of effort. Sharpening the steel to a wicked edge is simple, and it holds the edge well. The handle is comfortable to hold, fills my hands (I wear large gloves), and there are no hot spots after extended use. By chance, it's listed under Construction / Allround / Professional on the Morakniv website. I would definitely agree with this classification, as it has served me well in this role. The rear bolster will dig into your palm and annoy you if you're a hardcore Bushcrafter who knows the various knife grips. This role is better suited to the Mora Bushcraft and Mora Companion, in my opinion. br>br>The sheath has no rattle and adequate retention for backpackers, but I wouldn't risk carrying it inverted. There is a slight gap between the blade and the handle for those who may use this for food preparation. You'll have to be careful when washing the knife because something will always get stuck in the gap. br>br>I hope this information is useful!.

Great option for hunters (and I believe the side of the blade and a stick could be used to drive nails)
5/5

This knife had no problems skinning and quartering a whitetail this year. It was enough to roll the edge a bit by digging a hip ball out of its socket. This knife far outperforms its price, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. The best part about using a knife for hunting is that once you've dressed your deer, you can put it back into the plastic sheath, knowing that it'll easily wash out. For this reason, I avoid using leather or nylon sheaths on knives that will be used to dress game. In those situations, I always feel compelled to remove as much deer as possible from the knife. When I got home, I dressed the deer, put the knife back in its sheath, and washed everything up. For the task at hand, it's better than any expensive knife.
P. This is a difficult task.

For camping and bikepacking, this knife serves as a great utility, food prep, and companion knife
5/5

The Morakinv ProS knife is a fantastic knife. It's light, elegant, and functional, and it locks into its sheath with a positive "click" in place without rattling. The knife can be easily removed from the sheath with a firm tug or by pushing against the sheath with the thumb in a controlled manner while it is securely held in place. Right out of the box, it's razor sharp. br>I have a heavier camp knife for wood prep tasks, and while I trust the construction of this Morakniv, my larger knife is more for patoning small pieces into smaller pieces (I also have a Silky Pocket Boy folding saw), whereas this Morakniv is designed for food prep. This is why I chose stainless steel with a plastic sheath. br>My other knife is made of 1095 steel and is currently sheathed in leather. It will be coated in oil and will be coated in the future. I have no intention of contaminating food with oil, getting that knife constantly wet with washing, or getting my porous leather sheath moldy or full of materials that are difficult to clean out of it. I don't have to worry about constantly washing the ProS, and I think it's an ideal companion knife for cleaning fish, skinning and field dressing wild game, and chopping veggies. br>I may still get the Bushcrafter model as a backup knife, because I'll be patoning and essentially abusing my other knife (and basically to match my camelbak, but the color of the ProS compliments the orange pack, and my pack also features blue - I'm a nerd). br>The ProS is extremely light! It attaches to the Camelbak Lobo pack's chest strap before an elastic expansion section prevents the sheath from sliding across the strap. When I'm mountain biking, I barely notice the knife at all. My knife is right on my hydration pack when it's time to set up camp and forage for firewood and tinder (dead birch are plentiful around here).

For the money, this has to be the best fixed blade knife
5/5

For the money, this has to be the best fixed blade knife. The blade was razor sharp when it arrived. Some people object to these sheaths, but do they really want more? It clicks into place with a satisfying click, securely holds the knife, releases the knife smoothly, and can be clipped on anywhere, including a belt, without having to remove it. To match my Eldridge, I wanted the red and black handle like the Pro C, but it had to be Sandvik stainless steel for me. I have to say that the nice blue color has grown on me quite a bit and, in any case, looks great with the red. For my handyman tool bucket, I also have a craft line morakniv, and I really like how much wider the blade is on the Pro S. This is a tough knife that I'd use at work or in the field. I also own a Kansbol, which is a superior knife, though I do wish the Kansbol had a sheath similar to the Pro S. The Kansbol, like the Eldris, is extremely secure in its sheath, but I prefer the Pro S for its quick draw and ability to clip it to anything. The Kansbol excelled at food preparation and has a Firesteel ground spine, but it's a lot more expensive. This is the perfect knife for your tool kit, camping gear, emergency kit, or the like, and it's only $11 with free shipping? For the money, this is the best option. I do wish they had made a Sandvik classics game.
