Questions & Answers

Is it possible to strike a fire steel with the back of your spine?

If you scrape some of the coating away, you'll be able to see what's underneath.

I recently purchased the Esee 6 OG, and this small knife will be an excellent companion. Is this too big to use as a neck knife, or should I get the Izula II instead?

The ESEE 3PM-ESEE 3PM-ESEE 3PM-ESEE 3PM Knife made from VG The Izula II has a 9" sheaf and a 9" sheaf. The number of sheaves is seven. 25". The ESEE 3 is likely to be far too large to be a comfortable or practical neck knife, whereas the Izula II is not only a good neck knife, but it can also be carried in your pocket. My ESEE score is 3 out of 5. I'm very pleased with both the 6 and the Izula II. The Spyderco Dragonfly 2 is a very good small knife, but as a folder it isn't as strong as a fixed blade and could get gunk in the pivot from hanging around a sweaty neck. I would recommend getting the Izula II first, then adding the ESEE 3 if you like. Moras are nice, but the sheaf isn't as secure as the ESEE, so I wouldn't wear one around my neck. You may also want to think about the Ka- The Izula II with micarta handle is much nicer than the Bar Necker or Remora.

What is the composition of the sheath?

Plastic that has been molded.

Is there a Molle back with this?

A heavy-duty plastic sheath is included with it.

When comparing ESEE 3 to ESEE 4, the difference is significant
5/5

It was clear as soon as I took it out of the box that this was a high-end product. I don't think I've ever owned a knife of this caliber before. It's a great performing knife so far, and I love that the sheath is only as big as it needs to be, not any larger. It clicks into place in the sheath, and there's no way it'll come out. br>br>The most difficult decision I had to make was whether to take the ESEE 3 or 4. Because they're different knives for different situations, I decided to buy both. The 3 is the one you can take with you wherever you go, at any time, and it can do everything. The 4 appears to be more serious, and it's something I'd take with me on a planned expedition. The 3 feels very balanced in the hand, whereas the 4 is a little blade heavy. It's not bad, but there's a noticeable difference. As you can see in the photos, the 4 has a distinct advantage in terms of thickness. Don't get me wrong: the 3 isn't frail or frail-looking. I'm glad I got both, but if I had to choose, I'd go with the 3 because it has everything. around the concept of utility Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the 4, it's a monster, but the 3 is the best fit for my needs.

I bought this knife primarily for food prep and as a portable table knife, so my requirements may differ from those seeking a survival or bushcraft knife
5/5

br>br>Overall size ESEE 3 designbr>br>The ESEE 3 is nearly identical in size to my Griptilian (unfolded, of course). Its cutting edge is actually shorter. The Griptilian weighs less than the ESEE. The handle is a good fit for my male large glove hands, though I can only get all four fingers on it. There are after-market products available if you have particularly large hands. Various market handles are available. br>br>Handlesbr>br>I prefer G10 to the canvas Micarta found on most ESEE knives when it comes to food use. If it gets covered in grease or mayonnaise, it's much easier to wipe clean. I was thrilled to finally find an Amazon seller who carried the Coyote Brown G10. The color black has a military appearance to it. The Coyote Brown is a nice, neutral color that is friendlier but a little too obvious for a belt knife. It could be mistook for wood from a distance of a few feet. br>br>Blade coatingbr>br>My knife had a black, powder-coated blade. finish coats of paint I'd leave it on to prevent rust if it was only used for food on rare occasions, but the powder-coated steel-coated steel-coated steel-coated steel-coated steel-coated steel-coated steel-coated steel It's difficult to completely clean the coat because it's too rough. In addition, the black color is a little too sinister for my tastes. I want a knife that I can use to cut my food without looking like a Ninja weapon in a restaurant or at a church picnic. So I'll sand the black paint off the blade (leaving it on underneath the handle to prevent rust where I can't see it). The sheath is what transforms the ESEE 3 from a knife to a carry system. br>br> Because the plastic sheath is so thin and flat, it's perfect for carrying in one's pocket. The blade snaps securely into place, and I'm not worried about the knife accidentally coming out. The sheath, on the other hand, has a thumb ramp that allows you to easily remove the sheath while still drawing the knife. A separate piece with a heavy-duty steel belt clip attaches to either side of the sheath, which has eight holes for parachutes. MOLLE locks or a cord. So, if the belt clip isn't quite right, you can easily secure the sheath vertically or horizontally, right or left handed, in a variety of ways. The knife rides high and tight against my body thanks to the belt clip, making it ideal for concealment under an untucked shirt (YMMV). The G10 does not grab at your clothing and has a flat handle that reduces printing. When you need it, the clip makes it simple to snap it onto your belt, then pop it off and slip the knife into your pocket for more discreet carry. br>br>In usebr>br>For a week, I carried the ESEE 3 around in my pocket. It was small enough to fit into even the tiniest of pants pockets and did not print. Then I tried it on my belt, clipping it to the inside of the belt (between my pants and the belt). When I sat down, it didn't poke any of the seat cushions because it rides high enough. Although the belt kept it snug against my side, it was extremely comfortable (YMMV). I could feel it in my ribs, but the handle never got stuck. It never got caught in my truck's seatbelt once. It didn't print under a loose-fitting untucked shirt (but it might have under a tight T-shirt). shirt). It slices food more evenly than my standard kitchen knife. br>br>In comparison to other ESEE models, the ESEE 3's blade is thinner and slices better than the slightly larger ESEE 4. The 4 is probably a better all-around woods knife, but it's a little heavier on the belt and a little bigger to fit in a pocket. If rust is a concern for you, the 4 is available in Stainless Steel (Carbon Steel knives, like the 3), which will rust if not properly maintained. The Izula 2 has a blade that is shorter and thicker than the 3, but has a handle that is nearly the same size as the 3. The Izula blade is a little short for general kitchen use, but it's thick enough to split apples instead of slice them. The Izula 2 would be easier to carry in a pocket.

The knife is fantastic, but the sheath is even better
3/5

awful. I'd been wanting an Esee for a long time and finally got one. I was both excited and disappointed by this knife, so it's a win-win situation. Everything is razor-sharp and of exceptional quality. The sheath, on the other hand, is complete scum. What the hell is going on? How did they manage to make such a huge blunder? How did someone put this together, test it, and come to the conclusion that "yes, it only takes 25 pounds of pull force to remove the knife from the sheath"? Seriously, I have a lot of fixed blades from various manufacturers, and I've never had one that was so difficult to remove from the sheath. It was just as difficult to get it into the sheath. I'd say it took me about 7 minutes. It took ten pounds of force to click it into place. And, no, there was no way to change it. The moment I let go of any tension on the screws, they became completely loose and ready to fall out. This knife has a lot of potential, but the sheath needs a lot of work.

I really like this knife
5/5

This knife is fantastic!! For the past 20 years, I've been purchasing and collecting knives (including Benchmades). The sheath is the best I've ever had from a factory. The handle size is ideal for me because I wear medium to large gloves. I got the orange handle to make it easier to find when I'm skinning or doing camp chores. I wouldn t call it an everyday carry, but it is about a 50 % of the time carry for me. If you're on the fence about buying it, go ahead and do it.

Amazing knife that is extremely well made and well worth the price
5/5

This fixed blade is incredible. The knife is flawless in every way: the edge is razor-sharp right out of the box, and the blade's coating is even and complete. The micarta grips are fantastic, and I'm glad I chose them over g10 (though there's nothing wrong with g10). The sheath is also excellent, and the retention is right on target. It starts out extremely tight, but after about 20 times of inserting and removing the blade, it settles into a perfect amount of retention. br>br>I'm definitely going to get the Esee 4/5/6 now. If you're into EDC fixed blades, the 3 is the perfect size, or it can be used as a complement to one of the larger blades for outdoor or bushcraft use. I wouldn't rely solely on the 3 as a hiking knife. Personally, I'd keep the 3 on my waistband and get a 5 for my backpack. I haven't yet held the 4/5/6, so that may change. br>br>Excellent knife, very well made, and highly recommended.
