Selected User Reviews For Okuma Longitude Surf Graphite Rods (Large, Black/Blue/Silver) - New Rlease!
The conventional reel I have always used for boats, the Avet MXL, I decided to take it out for surfcasting. As a consequence, I ordered the 12ft Okuma Longitude rod Model # LC-12 Item 1202H As I was expecting it to be a bit stiffer at the tip than when it arrived, it seemed to be of decent quality. To test it out, I took it across the street to an empty road at the entrance to a park. It all went well during the first cast. Initially, I had no noticeable backlash the rod traveled a good distance with minimal effort. On the next cast, although I placed minimal effort into the cast, the rod snapped below the third guide. The rod is rated to cast lures from 3 to 10 pounds. In my case, the sinker weighed 5 ounces and the lure weighed 8 ounces. I had no intention of spending the time and money to travel to a beach just to end up with a useless rod, since the beach was just across the street from my house. From as far back as I can recall, I've been an Okuma fan. Normally, they are known for their superb products, but this isn't the case here.
When the rod snapped on the first hookup with an 11lb yellowtail (or Japanese amberjack), it was the first time it was used. I was able to catch the fish after all As for reeling, the member of the crew did the pumping with the snapped end and I did the pumping. A fluorocarbon leader line of 20 pounds was used The rod can support up to 20 pounds There was an interesting snap on that 40lb line that occurred *1ft away from the 2. The joint is composed of two pieces. There is clearly an issue with the manufacturing process. While I love my three Okuma reels, they can only handle so much water and There's no other way to describe this rod than POS. Don't use it unless you are fishing for fish that weigh less than 3lbs and don't have an urge to fight. Those of you who are reading this and want to set the record straight are welcome to contact me and I will be glad to exchange the snapped defective rod for a lasting unit.
A big thanks to Okuma for providing free warranty exchanges.
Rods such as this one perform really well! It's really happening. Cape Cod Canal proved to be a great place for striper fishing. When I fished it the first 2 times, the rod performed beyond expectations and I caught several "schoolies". In the third instance, the rod snapped just below the 3rd eyelet while reeling in a cow. To those of you who are not familiar with the Cape Cod canal, it has a super strong current and rocks that are slippery as the Whitey Bulger pool. Having caught the fish, I landed it. This is a 48" The only problem is that I will never buy another Okuma product again. An initially well made product becomes popular, demands rise, and then margins begin to stretch so new policy for personnel is put in place and quality control is conducted differently. After all, there's a hurry to ship. There has been a lot of consistency in recent reviews Customer reviews as a whole went from a +4 in July to a - in August There is no lying among the people. My St. Croix is now my pride and joy, or should I say I highly recommend it.
My first Okuma so I figured I'd give the brand a try, the blank is nice, the grip feels great in the hand, HOWEVER, the eyelets are built in a way that's inferior to the rest of the stick. As soon as I received the first one, there was a crack in the resin at the first eyelet on the handle portion of the pole, so I returned it as a new pole shouldn't have any critical failure points on arrival. The core is good quality and the eyelets are also good quality, but the price of a custom pole is double what I should be paying. I am keeping it since I can strip it to a blank and repair it as a custom In spite of the fact that the damage is minimal, I am extremely disappointed and will do everything in my power to call attention to the quality of the product and draw attention to okuma for as long as I live due to such a monumental error in quality and customer service.
On three out of four uses, this rod has caught some small whiting and one shark that was about 3' long. The two piece rod worked as expected, but today a funny thing happened, a 3 piece rod was added. In my opinion, it's a 1 because I ate 4oz of it and it was rated 1 After the shark battle, who would have thought that the 3oz rod would give up on a simple cast. It exploded! Though I had read the other reviews and wanted to give it a try, I didn't enjoy it. It was not surprising to me due to the reviews and cost. Let's take a look at the top end rods now.
As I wrote a review before and it was rejected, I'll try not to break the rules this time A great rod. )
When I fish for catfish and in the surf, I use this lure. Fishing on it with heavy braid, I have pulled in both blue cats and flathead over 20 lbs without any problems. I had one big one wrap me around a post. Trying to horse him out really put a lot of pressure on the rod, but it ended up breaking the line. Still, it was a great rod. This is a good surf rod due to its excellent casting characteristics. I use circle hooks that require a LOT of backbone and good tip action (I use circle hooks that have good action but miss few sets. My favorite thing about the rod is how light it is. The rod is partnered with a 50 baitfeeder reel, of the same brand, and the set-up is awesome.
This product is pretty much useless due to the lack of a protective ring at the beginning of the guide.
