Questions & Answers

What country does it come from?

I threw away the packaging when I bought it a few years ago, so I don't know where it's from. Gerber occasionally sells items made in China. It's still going strong, so I'd say go for it. As good as, if not better than, what was anticipated.

What is the maximum weight this can support? 3kg or more?

I'm aware that the Defender can withstand a load of up to 6 pounds. When you want to extend the unit, you unlock it and lock it again. My main concern is how you'll attach it to your clothes and whether or not it'll be strong enough to support the weight. Just my two cents' worth

What color is it, exactly?

Hello, Miguel from Tall Ridge. The front of the tether has a military/olive green color to it. Please let us know if you found this information useful!

How strong is it when it breaks?

Good afternoon, Thomas. I'm Wendy from Tall Ridge, and I'd like to welcome you to our community. Thank you for taking the time to contact us. "The Defender Large is designed to hold hand-held fishing tools (such as a rod and reel)." Magnifying glasses). The Dyneema cable has a 150-pound load rating. the spooling mechanism, the lock, and the tip-off mechanism The overall function/breaking strength is aided by the control ring. I hope this has been of assistance!

The clip isn't particularly strong or thick, and it bends far too easily
3/5

I don't work in construction or anything physically demanding; instead, I work at a desk and keep my keys in this clip. I'm also not fat enough that the tether is pushing against my body weight; I wear it on a thick leather belt and sit all day, and yet this thing bends a lot; I can't get it to close any further than what you see in the picture, and it feels like it's about to snap off. Due to the fact that it is only made of thin, low-cost metal. br>br>I don't see how holding a tool of some sort with rigorous work/activity could be even remotely effective. For the love of God, I have it holding my security badge, and it can't even last a month without becoming twisted and unusable.

Consider thinking outside the box
5/5

I understand that this is aimed at anglers, but you have to think outside the box, and I'm surprised Gerber hasn't done so. This is how I control my speed loader so that I can load, release, and return to work. They also work wonders on your trauma shears, preventing you from wasting money on a great pair. Because the tension bar on the back not only has a lip to secure it over whatever it hooks on to, but it's also perfectly spaced to fit in Molle webbing, these have tactical applications. For those types of tactical applications, the colors would have to be changed to a subdued gray or black, as the orange stands out on OD green, black, or FDE. The lanyard's high tension and the material's properties make it ideal for use as a tripwire; the small filament and brake that can be applied keep it in place and make it difficult to see. I gave it a five-star rating because we spent a lot of time at my station testing and experimenting with it, and it's such a versatile product. made as well br>br> Now for the negative aspects, which have nothing to do with the product. Because I had to order a replacement, the photo you see here is of my second one. The first one was dented and lacked the advertised little ring on the hook. The replacement I received also did not include the ring, and the zip ties that held it to the cardboard hanger were already broken. The replacement one, on the other hand, was in excellent condition, and I don't think it's fair to dock one star because this is an amazing product and the issue had nothing to do with its overall usability.

The design is fantastic
3/5

However, it was produced at a low cost. This is a fantastic idea. It's exactly what I needed, but it's poorly constructed. Rather than using this flawless design, They cut corners by not using high-quality materials. Making something that looks good out of what could have been my favorite piece of equipment that I can't live without. I'm hoping to get a year out of it, but I'm not sure I'll be able to. I've only had it for a week and the line is fraying and getting caught when I extend or retract it. It's made of a thin, light material that makes me wonder when it'll break, when it should have been made of the same material as the rest of the retractable gear keepers. I wish I could say I'm confident it won't fall apart after a few months of regular use, but I can't. Great concept with a lot of potential, but made of low-cost materials. I'd get another one if it weren't for the price; every other gear keeper I've ever owned, while not as well designed, was much less expensive and better made.

FOR KEYS, THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED
3/5

I read all of the positive and negative reviews before deciding on the larger of the two to use as a key holder. However, the security of this item for your valuable keys is dependent on both a piece of string and its dubious anchor method, as well as a small aluminum spring (non-locking - see below). carabiner (non-secure) We're all aware that if you're in a split-second decision, your split-second decision will A non-locking carabiner will open when the ring is twisted. That is precisely what happened to me, and as a result, I lost my keys. If you're going to use it, make sure it's a split-level split-level split-level split-level split-level Instead of using the carabiner, put the ring through the finger hole. Also, keep in mind that your split-second decision will have a significant impact on your The ring is made of steel, while the Gerber is made of aluminum, and the steel will wear down the aluminum over time. br>In addition, the back belt clip is easily bent. This clip will bend if you don't put it on or take it off while putting your belt on or off your pants, and you risk losing the entire thing. br>I wouldn't recommend it for anything other than fishing and not as a primary tool. NOT RECOMMENDED. br>.

For "soft" uses, this is ideal
3/5

I had high hopes for this product, and I bought two of them at first. One would be dedicated to a Leatherman (sorry, Gerber), while the other would serve as a PFD alternate between a pair of scissors and a Spyderco Salt variant. br> To begin, let's look at the advantages:
- Button lock makes it super simple to use. br>- a powerful cablebr>br>br>br>br>br On the heavier leatherman, there is excellent weight retention. br>br>Cons:
- One-handed operation of the locking system (sliding the cable into the notch) is difficult from a 6-foot distance. 730 position (left hip/buttock) on my beltbr>- To alleviate the annoyance of the ring clip rubbing my finger/knuckle while using the tool, I decided to add a short section of bankline between the ringclip and the toolbr>- The belt attachment point bends easily and does not appear to be intended for daily use. This could be due to the fact that my job (Firefighter/Paramedic) puts me under a lot of stress. Even so, I found the clip to be unreasonably weak, and everything would have been lost if it hadn't been for the fact that my tool was actually secured in a pouch. br>br>Rating:
- I like the concept for everyday use, but I find it unacceptable because the clip has repeatedly bent or popped off my belt. Tethering the tether to my belt appears to be an unnecessary overkill, so I'm actively looking for a solution or a better option.
- It's been working perfectly in a pocket on my PFD. I was able to save a good pair of shears from being thrown over the side of my canoe by "swimming with the fishes. " Despite the fact that this is a much gentler application of the product. br>br>Overall: br>I can't recommend this as a hard-working item that the Gerber name is known for (I own a number of excellent Gerber products). However, I strongly recommend it for "softer," safer applications in which your attachment points will not be subjected to excessive friction.
