A 1 and 1/8" hose can be plugged into the outlet. For your garden hose, you'll need to find whatever other fittings you need to go from 1 and 1/8 down to 5/8.
The pump is designed to be used as a submersible pump, and it is a fantastic unit.

It came in handy in an emergency, and it performed admirably. I had three pumps on my boat, but they all died, so I used this pump to empty it of all the rainwater. I'll investigate what happened to my other pump and, if necessary, replace it with this one. The hose that Amazon recommends is too small to use with it.
I installed it as a backup pump after my boat took on water during a storm and I couldn't quickly pump the water out with the factory installed pump. (This is a frightening scenario. ) As luck would have it, after installing this pump, I launched my boat and unintentionally put the bilge plug on the live well drain (which I had never done before LOL). Well. I heard the pump turn on as I walked away from the launch ramp and saw water SHOOTING out of the through hull fitting. Not even a smidgeon of SHOOTING! This is a pump that I wholeheartedly endorse.
This product ultimately saved my life, as well as the lives of my friends and my boat. Our 14-foot boat took on a lot of water due to a critical plug failure. With a foot and a half of water inside and the engine not turning over, this pump managed to empty it and fight off the incoming water long enough for me to restart and safely return to the dock.
It performs admirably. This is a very simple setup. It does an excellent job of pushing water out of my boat. For the price, it's a great deal.
HOSE OUTLET IS A METRIC SIZE NOT A STANDARD AND EVEN THOUGH THE DIRECTIONS SAY TO INSTALL WITH A FUSE, THEY GIVE NO INDICATION AS TO WHAT SIZE FUSE TO USE SO I GUESS YOU JUST USE WHATEVER YOU HAPPEN TO HAVE LAYING AROUND. THIS PUMP IS NOT ONE I WOULD BUY AGAIN.
It wasn't a problem for me (I just needed to drill a few holes), but if you don't have a drill and want to mount it to the floor of something, you're out of luck.
The float switch on my boat didn't work, so I installed this. When I tested the replacement, it worked perfectly. In any case, it's not something I'd particularly like to see running.
