As of now (just got it), I have not used this line yet, but it appears to be useful Although it is cheap when compared to other fly lines, it has pretty much the same weight as claimed for the 500 gr. It seems very odd that there isn't a single word on the packaging telling me anything about the product or manufacturer, no product data sheet inside either. The only thing I see on the packaging is a 1 inch sticker on the box and bag inside (anyone can print a sticker). There is nothing to report. According to the photo, it is a pretty box with a generic statement about fly fishing line and would appreciate it if you recycled the box. There has never been a company I have heard of or seen that doesn't include instructions, guides for use, information on other products, contact information, etc.
I kind of thought there was a requirement that certain information on product packaging be included. An absence of product data is often an indication that bootleg products are being manufactured It might be so, but I can't say for sure. In a quick internet search, we only find vendors like this one, another site selling only Chinese goods, and a video site (or two) An immediate search did not turn up a company website.
Having caught Snook and Jacks along the beach throwing big flies, I have to say this Skagit head is great. Compared to The Rio Skagit head, this product is just as good. Having been a professional inshore guide for over 25 years, I am bulldogging my gear! With the Skagit head I use the floating Orange running line and what a fine combination! My favorite fly line for the Sage 15' reel in a 10 wt is the Aventik. After using my fly lines, several of my clients have started to use Aventik fly lines.
I bought a couple of these to try on a spey rod I just The price is right so I can buy a couple of different lines to try since I wasn't sure which weight line I would like to buy. In the future, I might invest in RIO or Airflo skagit lines after learning the "snap t" and the "Perry Poke", but until I've become proficient with these lines, I'll wait for now.
This is undoubtedly a high quality Skagit head with excellent construction, and I sincerely apologize for taking any business away from the guys at OPST. Aventik sells this for this cheap I find hard to believe.
On a 10' 8wt, I fished for salmon with the 350 gr.
As good as Rio, but at a lower cost. You will find exactly how much grain is in one pound on the BACK end of.
Very nice.
Due to the pre-set up nature of the line, it was easy to set up This looped many times. Fly lines such as this one have a hard time casting in tight spots, but this one works well.
