This product has completely transformed how I think about fly lines and how I set up my rod and reel. My focus used to be almost entirely on my rod when it came to casting performance. Fly line is at the top of my list for creating or improving a rod and reel setup, especially after picking up Rio Elite Gold. My $150 Cabela's rod casts just as well as my Orvis recon thanks to this line. And casting with my recon is a world of difference from the $50 line I was using previously. I'll never upgrade a rod without first purchasing premium line such as this. br>br>In terms of technology, this line loads fast-action rods (e. g. , e. g. , e. g. , e. g. , e. g. , e. g. recon) casts of 40 feet are a piece of cake. I find myself using spey casting techniques quite a bit at short range, though performance is not nearly as good as a spey specific line. br>br>I use this line for a variety of techniques with high effectiveness:br>br>I use this line for a variety of techniques with high effectiveness:br>br>I use this line for a variety of techniques with high effectiveness:br>br>I use this line for a variety of techniques with high effectiveness:br It's buttery smooth casting dry flies ranging in size from a size 6 hopper to a size 18 midge. Medium Indicator rigs are easily turned over. When it comes to medium and heavy streamers (think sculpzillas), it struggles a little, but when it comes to lighter streamers (wooly buggers), it's fantastic. br>br>Of course, take this with a grain of salt because the caster's ability isn't the best!.
Two different vendors sold me two packages of Rio Elite Gold Slick. The first line, purchased from a local fly shop, lasted about 30 minutes before breaking about 15 yards from the tip. I then swapped it out for a brand new RIO Elite Gold package. It broke again in roughly the same spot as the first cast. I've been using Rio gold for a long time and have never encountered this issue.
or 2nds defective line that isn't the correct one.
It's a great line that's simple to cast. Even for a novice like me, it was a breeze.
It has the ability to shoot like a bullet.
I really like this line.
