There is a tendency for the glove to run a bit large.
If you rappel a couple of times, they should still hold up. There is no word on whether they would be good for crossfit or anything like that. You will need to consider how fast and how far you plan to travel when deciding whether they are sturdy. So that's my attempt at helping you.

I'm a woman who lifts, and I hate the crappy gloves I've been using! The gloves that I wear stink all the time for me and I think they cause callouses to grow all the time! There are little grips all over the palms, along with cut finger pieces and a snug The fatigue in my hands may be affecting the strength in my grip, though. The size medium is perfect for me because my hands are of a moderate size. In my opinion, a large would be best, but you don't want them to loosen up too much if they stretch.
