How can I determine which cable will fit on my 1976 ?

This one is on a 2000 70 horsepower Johnson and works fine. I would like to compare the ends of this one and yours.

Can this be used with an older control and with a 1989 Evinrude 48 horsepower?

With the CC205xx, Johnson/Evinrude engines and controls dating from 1979 to the present will be compatible. There is an Xtreme version of that cable, CCX205xx, which allows for faster, more powerful movements than the original version.
