Having purchased this for our 2 1/2 year old (about 32 pounds), we were able to adjust the chest (which I did correctly) as well as her arms to fit. The chest piece floats up once submerged in the water (of course), but she is choked since it pushes up under her neck when submerged. As an alternative, it would have been a good vest if it had come with a strap that buckled under the child's legs, like the new one we just bought.

When the mermaid vest was delivered to my youngest daughter, I was really disappointed in the quality of it. Almost every thread on the arms was loose and the stitching on the arms was a mess. Though the vest had many lovely features, the worst part was the bulge on the inside. I tried to flatten it, but the material kept popping out, so I was concerned it would harm my child. I have now worn two puddle jumpers, and the quality of this one is much better than our older jumper. Additionally, I also wonder if the mermaid one is fake as there has been a complaint about the mermaid one, so it is possible that the quality of the mermaid one is poor. If I wanted one like this, I would have ordered from China. It's a disappointment given how long it took to get there and how long it took to leave. Trying to figure out how to return this thing now, I have to find an actual one and return it!.

The puddle jumper on this page is not the genuine article from Stearns. When my 2 year old hit the water, she didn't float and bobbed in it. There was either a head first landing or a straight back landing. As well, the sewing detail on this puddle jumper is quite different from my older daughter's. I'm sorry to hear that.
