There is a charger and a maintainer in this device. It shouldn't be a problem for your batteries to retain their charging for a couple of weeks without an electrically powered device. the power is restored to the MinnKota, the batteries should be back on par with specifications. It detects battery temperature and adjusts charge accordingly. I've used several chargers before, and I'm totally satisfied with this one. It is by far the most powerful and efficient.

An older battery charger I used had a 3 bank system, but it failed On my boat, I upgraded the battery system as I have four batteries and removed the parallel connections between two batteries that were there solely to charge the batteries. In my previous charger there was a single display for each output bank, but this charger has indicators for each output When I was on my boat, I believed the alternators had failed, but this charger fixed the problem in two days without me having to replace two of them. I'm very happy with my progress to date!.
Once I unhooked it, I let it sit for a while. Dec. 2016 was the date I bought this. There are four new batteries in my garage that I connected to the device. I had no problems with it. In about a year, I had it unplugged and left it. The circuit has shorted since I plugged it in yesterday (it had been in a garage all this time). This cooking battery was barely used for 1 year, and the circuit for battery #1 is out of power and the battery receives full power forever.
