Powerwinch Freefall Anchor Windlass 36' Class

From the beginning, this windlass has caused me numerous problems. When it worked, it was great, but it would break down at times. It died for the last time yesterday. I'm forced to buy a new windlass after one year and two months. It makes me extremely unhappy.

Mine, on the other hand, might be able to. The level of quality is still lacking. Mine could only be used for a short time before it began to cause problems. The 36-foot boat was sold, and the problem was passed on to the new owner.

After two years, this winch gave up the ghost. The rode jammed up a lot while it was working. I tried using Powerwinch's rode and chain, but it wouldn't feed between the rode and chain and would always get stuck there. The stripper is held in place by a weak bolt that is not supported on both sides of the stripper. When the rode became stuck for the first time, it bent. It's a unit that's held together by rivets. End-user serviceability is not very good. The paint is easy to chip. The anchor is stuck in the mud, and the motor is struggling to pull it out. It's never worked out that well. I removed this hunk of junk from my boat and replaced it with a Lewmar when the gears stripped out. The Lewmar is one of my favorite characters. Although the Lewmar is more expensive, it is well worth the investment. This windlass is not one I would recommend to a friend.

People at support were great; I had to replace a 50+ year old rocker up down switch, which worked, but I had to open it up and reposition a gear after that. in order for it to work Why is it that the gear is moving in such a strange manner? The chain is now tangled as it enters the unit. I'm not sure if I'd purchase this brand again.
