I had previously purchased a defective Pro Fish 700 and fully expected to receive another defective unit, but I did! With exactly the same issue as the first! I've spoken with Lewmar dealers and service personnel, and the consensus is unanimous: this thing is awfuL! The Pro Fish 700 is a horribly flawed design. I'm now forced to take the SECOND one apart for the same reason as the first and return it to Lewmar. But this was my LAST Lewmar product; these things are truly awful, as any Lewmar service technician will tell you. Get something else instead of this and you'll save yourself a lot of grief. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> 6 September 2020br>br>Well, Pro Fish 700 NUMBER 3 (the third one I've had) has seized up in the same way that the first two did. This one was free because Lewmar is aware of the 700's internal flaw but is content to simply return them and send you a new one. Because the tech in the US must "look at it" before contacting Lewmar to send a new one, the process takes about 6 weeks. I've spoken with two different technicians from two different shops, and they both agree! They don't even attempt to repair them because everyone is aware of the flaw, but Lewmar will continue to send you new ones. This is completely absurd! So, as they begin to seize, this is what happens. The gypsy plunger begins to bang against the frame more forcefully, and the retraction slows down, drawing more and more amps. You can take the gypsy out and lube it up however you want, but the problem is deep within the motor's gearing. It eventually becomes increasingly louder, then seizes in either a forward or backward motion. It's more like a drum when it comes to locking up. br>br>This is a very sad situation. The KEY TAKEAWAY IS THIS: THE TECHS HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE PRO FISH 900 DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. AVOID THE 700 IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!.
Perfecto.
br>Arrived in Bahrain on time and in good condition.
Perfect!.
It works well and retrieves data quickly.
It was a great price, and the vendor delivered it quickly and at no extra cost. A strong recommendation is given! Thank you very much!.
Although attractive, it is untrustworthy. My score is a two. Pro Fish 700 is a 5-year-old fish. Because I do most of my fishing offshore, I've only used this windlass a few times. Once, I experimented with free fall mode. I took it to a local Authorized Lewmar repair center, but was told it was not covered under warranty because the gypsy wheel would turn but the windlass would not retrieve the line, leaving me to pull 250' by hand. This windlass was included with my 2015 Parker, but the case was never opened, and my warranty claim was denied. I'm not going to spend $500 to get my Pro Fish 700 back to its original unreliable state; instead, I'm going to go with a commercial-style drum anchor winch like the Lone Star Marine GX series.
