Installation instructions are very clear for a good product
5/5

On my 18' boat, I just finished installing a 6' keelguard. A great advantage of the glue is its sticky nature, which helps with It was easy to see the dark adhesive underneath, so I added a small amount of marine caulking to the very top. The rest of the procedure was exactly as described in I just updated In spite of having played in a kayak for nearly a year, the keelguard still looks like it was just installed My shoe got quite dirty after dragging it around on sand for quite a while.

The protector is effective, but it sticks sometimes
3/5

Keels are protected by this device. The glue stuck well on straight sections if you followed the directions exactly. The keel went round over the curve on hot days, but I was able to get it back down the next Glued and held in place for 3 days with a form, but buckled a few days later. In order to fix the problem, it seems that a small slit needs to be cut along each side of where it buckles in order to relieve excess material (from the curve of the bow) before regluing it using solvent-based contact cement where it bowed. I had trouble getting it to stick where it went over the spray rail bumps, but heating it with a heat gun loosened it and I used a little contact cement. If I find that it does not hold up, I will update. I just realized it has been over a year since the boat last hit the water. A year ago, everything seemed to be okay. The compound curves on the bow, which I had redone with more primer and cement, were holding fine, and the straight on the keel seemed to be holding. My check of the keel guard upon returning to my son's house in Florida this January was unclear. The compound curve in the bow appeared fine, but a small loose section in the straight part of the keel was obvious. After cutting off the loose part of the back three feet and pulling it off, I gave up - it wasn't that hard to remove.
The end result is that you can follow the directions exactly, but Then, clean the area well and use solvent based contact cement on a wooden form (warm it with a heat gun). For a compound curve, let it sit for a week and it seems to stick well.

There is a way to do it
5/5

There is a ramp on one of my favorite fishing spots without a dock so I need to pull my boat up to it. Through the years I've damaged the keel plenty and had to have it repaired. In the beginning, I was leery of a keel guard since I was afraid of messing up the installation, and it can never be moved after it is applied. Concerned about it staying on as well, I turned it off. My apologies to both of you for my erroneous assumptions. It will work as long as you follow the instructions / video exactly as they say. It was not a bad job at all, I was surprised. Fortunately, there's a lot to like. I find it useful. My boat has been hit with the ramp a number of times now and I've been in the water for an extended period of time. I'm confident the ramp will not tear this thing apart. Your favorite ramp spot may be where you must use a ramp on a regular basis. The answer to this question is yes.

This part does not have compound bends
3/5

Complicated bends cannot be made. Although the instructions were followed to a tee including air and hull temperatures, prep, and prime intervals with wait times in between, the product did not perform as promised. This has disappointed me greatly. 135 dollars. A brand new hull ended up with a mess of 3M debris that I had to carefully clean off.

Make sure you follow the directions! It took me a while to decide to buy this after reading multiple reviews
5/5

I took the instructions to heart and followed them exactly. Any negative comments appeared to be installation issues. It was my own effort to clean the surfaces with denatured alcohol before scrubbing them with the cleaner. With cleaning included, it took less than an hour. After letting the reaction sit for several days I could use the boat again without any problems. I caught it three months (and 20 fishing trips) ago, and it hasn't changed since. Happy to hear that!.

Investment that is well worth it
4/5

I mounted the 7 foot on an 18 ft bass boat because I wanted it to be extended further at the bow about a few inches below the D-ring Ring the bell. Upon unpacking mine, it was a little stiff, but I went ahead and traced it out like the YouTube installation videos show, and then left it in the sun to wilt so that I could prepare That was my only mistake, because after becoming more pliable, when I installed the guard, the length had widened a bit and was about an inch more than what I had originally traced out and It is recommended you set it in the sun for a while, let it soften, and then trace it over When two people are involved in the installation, it goes much more smoothly. Due to the fast drying time of primer towlets, you should apply it quickly. Make sure to get it right the first time around because the adhesive is On each end, I applied a thin bead of marine silicone to seal it up real well. It has been a successful performance so far. Beaching my boat, I discovered that it protects just as Since it gives me peace of mind, I wish I would have purchased it years ago to protect my keel.

I could not get the adhesive to stick
3/5

The installation was performed per the After taking the boat three times to a local lake, the adhesive failed in multiple places. The customer service department sent me a replacement after claiming that it was improperly installed. It was also a concern for me that my new installation would fail since I followed the It appears that the rollers on the trailers are commonly the cause of the failure in boat forums. It does not appear that there is an Amazon product warning mentioning this. Due to the trailer's keel rollers, I'm sure the new installation would have failed as well. My Amazon account claims that I need to return this product for a refund. However, I am no longer in If I'm going to attempt to fix the KeelGuard, I will probably use the 3M adhesive that is recommended in the forums. This product is too expensive to try to adjust One replacement is covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

It is difficult to adhere
3/5

The instructions said to prep the bottom of my ski for 2 days exactly the way they said to do it. The keelguard was mounted exactly as per the instructions, including using a rubber mallet to pound it in place. A couple of days later, I was able to put the ski in the water, but the keelguard came Thank goodness I was able to stop, get off, and check as soon as it let go. This item came loose from the back near the intake area of my ski and was flapping around. My ski is a bit sticky from a layer of adhesive on the bottom of the ski that I was able to peel off the rest of the way.
