Questions & Answers

The photo and the "color" or model do not appear to be the same. In the photo, the "nh metric" displays miles and inches. Is this correct? I'm looking for the mile-to-inch conversion. ?

Welcome to the perplexing world of compasses sizing. I had a hard time shopping as well. There is no metric scale, and the photo does not match my 30L. Inches are on the left. Miles in One is at the top of the list: The scale is 50,000. On the right, there's a mile in one sign: a scale of 24000 My compass is one of my favorites and one that I would recommend. I hope this has been of assistance.

Is it possible to get rid of the ridiculous (i.e. tie the lanyard (or a piece of paracord) directly to the compass with a breakable) lanyard snap clip?

My bag has a snap clip, and it takes a lot of pulling to get it to release. This is a precautionary measure, and I would not disable it. Either that, or use a cord that will snap in the event of an accident. A thirty-dollar compass isn't worth your life.

Is it suitable for use indoors?

No, I wouldn't rely on a compass inside - There is too much metal in the house, which will affect accuracy depending on where you are in the house and what is nearby that is made of steel or iron - Stoves, ovens, automobiles, and steel or cast iron plumbing fixtures are just a few examples. If you have steel furniture or a steel canopy frame on your patio, the same goes for pipes, steel garage doors, washers and dryers, window frames, and so on. There are car compasses available, but they are stationary and must be calibrated for a specific location in your vehicle before being left there. So, regardless of which brand of compass you purchase (this one is one of my favorites), make sure to practice using it outside, away from structures, as you would in the field. When you get it, take a look around to see what I'm talking about.

Is there a set of basic instructions included?

It includes more than just basic instructions; it also includes a comprehensive User Guide.

Excellent compass that is simple to use
5/5

I received exactly what I had requested. This is an excellent beginner's compass. It comes with a lanyard and an instruction manual, but I still recommend that you learn how to use a compass and map because there is a concept called declination. The angle between north on your compass and north on a map is known as declination. When using a map to get from point A to point B, you must account for this. The declination/angle difference can be easily adjusted with this compass. Note: Some compasses allow you to set the declination once and then forget about it. That feature isn't available on this compass. It is, however, a fantastic compass. Simply type in the declination of the area you'll be visiting into Google to find out. Enter "What is Yosemite's declination" as an example. If the number 13 is written on the card, it is correct. Turn your compass clockwise at 00 degrees. The temperature is zero degrees. If it is written - Turn the compass clockwise at 00 degrees. The temperature is zero degrees. To compensate for the number thirteen. The red markings on the inside of the compass can be used to determine 00 degrees. The black degree markings on the outside are not to be used.

I was on the verge of being killed! I bought the Sunto A- In 2018, I will be thirty years old
3/5

I've got quite a collection of compasses. In February 2019, I went to the Cabeza Prieta Wilderness Area in Arizona's Yuma desert (North Sonoran desert), which is a vast area of desert scrub and mountains with no ground water. Using this compass, I got lost on a hike one evening. After a few hours, I was fortunate enough to locate base camp. When I got back into my car, I put it to the test against my other analog compass, as well as my iPhone and iPad. On the SUNTO, the needle is a- The number 30 was heading in the wrong direction, towards the southwest rather than the north! It's no surprise I got lost; I crushed the compass with my hiking stick, preventing anyone from using it again. Perhaps it was just a problem with my computer, but double-check everything.

It's incredible what excellent customer service can accomplish
5/5

This is an updated version of my previous review. br>br>To cut a long story short, my first compass broke, and I discovered that contacting Suunto customer service was not simple or straightforward. Suunto went above and beyond to replace my broken compass once I was able to contact them. br>br>Once I was able to contact them, they went above and beyond to replace my broken compass. Their replacement arrived in California in about four days after shipping from Finland. Wow. br>br>On top of that, they sent me metric and USGS versions, just in case. br>br>Excellent customer service, with which I am extremely pleased.

Great small compass
5/5

Magnifying lens is larger than most other compasses, making it easy to read in the dark. Quickly delivered. According to the seller, it's an A30 NH USGS model. At a slightly lower price than other sellers who offer the A- Compass of the 30th model. br>br>Excellent basic compass, especially if you don't need or want a compass with a longer base plate. It includes everything you'll need to get started. br>It also has a fixed mag built in. This is a simple to use declination correction scale. A mag that can be adjusted, in my opinion. The declination feature is a complete waste of time. Simply use the compass protractor function to measure your azimuth off the map, and the map azimuth will be displayed on the compass dial. If your magazine isn't up to snuff, Turn until the mag needle points at 9 West on the mag declination scale (not at the N, that is - declination is 9 West). Hold the compass stationary and adjust (turn) the compass ring (bezel) until the N is at the point of the needle (if it is not aligned over the orienting arrow). The orienting arrow will also be moved beneath the mag needle as a result of this. Alternatively, if your mag declination is 7 East, turn until the mag needle on the east side of the fixed mag declination scale points to 7 East. Then, as previously described, reset the compass bezel. br>Hint: if you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using Turn the bezel ccw to get West mag declination. Turn the bezel cw to get East mag declination. br>br>Plus, the bezel has high contrast black graduations on a white background, making it easy to read, and it glows quite brightly in the dark after being charged with a bright flashlight, far better than most. The compass is rated to be accurate to a factor of two. 5˚. A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 30 NH USGS (U. S. Geological Survey) Survey of the Geology). [Suunto no. SS0121 00013], which includes a ruler in inches, 1: the fifty thousand USGS maps have a map scale of 24000 miles.

At only 1
5/5

25 pounds, it's very light. 04 ozs. The Suunto A- is what I got. North is shown. The rotating declination scale will not move away from its original position. In the dark, both the North needle and the bezel ring glow. It appears to be the type of material that absorbs light and then glows when the light is turned off. If you use it in complete darkness, I doubt it will glow like a tritium (a mildly radioactive substance that glows as it decays) watch dial. It's a pound and a half for those keeping track of ounces. On the postage scale at home, 04 ozs. The magnifier in the middle is particularly appealing to me. If I need to read something up close, I can leave my reading glasses at home and use the magnifier instead.

It was ineffective
4/5

I was able to obtain a replacement that functions properly. This was ordered and received today. I took it out of the box on June 23, 2018, and discovered that the pointer was not moving. Perhaps I'm grasping it incorrectly. So I try to level it out as much as possible, but it barely moves, as if it's stuck on something and won't move north on its own. I double-checked it with a different compass and my compass app. br>br>UPDATE: br>UPDATE: br>UPDATE: br>UPDATE: b DIPNDIVE responded quickly to my email and promptly sent me a replacement that works perfectly; this is excellent customer service, and I highly recommend them. For that, I award four stars.

It's a beautiful compass, and it's even better that it isn't made in China
5/5

It's a beautiful compass, and it's even better that it's not made in China, as so much nowadays is. br>As I am not a hardcore compass user, I can only compare it to a Silva from the 1980s and my Army issue compass. br>It's very nice and easy to read, and it'll do everything a typical person needs for basic navigation, hiking, camping, and so on; in fact, I prefer it to the Army compass. Yes, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, and yes, I know what a fancy compass can do; after all, I was 13B, as I'm sure some of you were. This is a great compass for the casual I need to get from here to there user who isn't calling in fire. It's well made, and there's nothing not to like about it.
