The manufacturing location of this compass is unknown to me, but I do find it suspect because of The panels on the outside cannot be seen in the pictures. Do you know why this is There are no way of avoiding those dead giveaways, regardless of whether it is meant for the US military market. I don't see any of this in the images. Here's my two cents it seems like a knockoff of Cammenga.
As I have not actually purchased this item, I cannot verify whether it is compliant with MIL-STD-12263 Please email us. This would be very helpful if it was According to the SPEC, the bezel will feature 120 detent notches situated on 3 degrees arcs. The luminous line should align with the black line set with the bezel. You may have to rotate the bezel every three degrees between north and south to accomplish this. An example is as follows You must rotate the bezel 30 times clockwise in order to travel west (270° Magnetic). When aligning the north seeking arrow with the luminous line, you will see that 270° is under the black line. Of course you have to do the math to note this. Depending on where you live, there is a difference. takes care of that for you, you may take a look at the Silva Ranger or similar products that you can use to declinate the compass to whatever area you are navigating from In contrast, the Silva does NOT have radioactive markings, so from time to time you will need to "charge" it with a light. To answer your original question, "charge" means to use light. Over the course of many decades, I used the military issue compasses and thought they were fantastic, especially the older versions with Radium paint instead of The dials were brighter and had a long half life decay in the case of the radium.
There is a good quality nylon pouch that secures with a snap to go along with the Compass. It has a durable strip of heavy nylon on the backside that can be used to attach the pouch to web gear using either Molle or Alice It comes with a nylon lanyard, which is of good quality, so that you can wear it around your neck if you wish. I believe that this is a well made compass and that it is worth the money. It may be helpful to know this.
There are no compasses in our inventory with a date of manufacture more than five months old.

In a similar purpose to the lensatic compass I used in the Army, this compass can fire magnetic lines to distant objects. For civilian use, this compass can walk in a straight line using a sight wire to get relatively close to what I'm looking for. Its not for people when they want to be sure the compass points in the right direction and go to the bearing they set based on a map reading, because they want to know that it's reading right. This paragraph briefly discusses the importance of magnetic declination for the use of compass readings when using maps without going into too much detail. The magnetic field curved on our planet mirrors the shape of its spherical ball, so it is not going to always read magnetic north because of declination (curvature) of its Added to this is that declination values change over time, as a result of the shifting magnetism of the north and south poles, so the ability to adjust a compass for your local declination value is incredibly useful. For civilian hiking, where mils are not used for measurement (the outer black ring on the Cammenga 3H) or if you simply wish to adjust the compass for declination to get 100% accuracy, I would recommend trying the trig compass instead.
M-series, newly manufactured and issued to a civilian The compass of 1950. This is an excellent lensatic compasses for dry weather. You should know how and why you should use this unit if you want to get the most out of it. The civilian-only part of the program is the following This is the military-issued version of the USM The PRF - Every batch of these coins is put through rigorous testing to ensure compliance with military requirements (such as This compass is the same as the one issued by the military. As of 1992, Cammenga was largely making the 3H compass for the US military as its primary product. My favorite thing about degree and mil scales is having both at my disposal. I really like the build quality of the vehicle Tritium is a great tool for me- You will need it if you are navigating at night, although it is not extremely bright. There is a 3H mark on the bottom of the unit I got (for tritium). This compasses is not equipped with the radiation marker that is often found on tritium devices. If people claim that they were made in 1977, ignore their reviews. There is a serial number and a date of manufacture printed next to the site wire in the format ###### (Printed in black) on these compasses. There is a 14 09 77 on my compass. Based on the date stamp, it was manufactured in Lot number is indicated by the last two digits The age is 12 years old). Because the site wire is slightly crooked (a factor that influences how efficiently it can be placed), I docked a star. Despite this, the rotating bezel is a bit flimsy/loose and does not click (although it does stay in place quite well). The pouch that is included in the package is quite ugly and awkward (although it is issued as part of the military). Due to parallax (especially when you are facing south), the design of this compass doesn't allow the bezel to be properly aligned. A 1 is also the only answer If you live in the US and are still using the 50k scale UTM grid coordinates will not be included in 24k scale topo maps. You will need an additional aid / scale. You can also make your own marks for 1 if you are cheap like me. Simply put some waterproof tape along one edge and make your own mark. This is a scale of 24k. Oh yeah, that's right. As well as the 1 year warranty, there is a 2 year warranty from Getting a hold of Cammenga is easy and she responds to questions by phone very quickly. For Boy Scout groups (and other youth groups) they have a compass rental program. can get more information about what they have to offer by calling them. You could rent their baseplate compasses for $15 there would also be the option of buying the compasses if you wanted to keep them in your boy scout.
When I used the compass for training for the first time, it broke. The front glass started falling out because moisture got under it, then the bezel ring started coming off, leading to the full removal of the front glass. I just used the product, and I cannot even return it since it has been more than a month since I placed my order. I would not recommend it.
Due to the item description reading "Tritium Lensatic Compass", I bought this thinking it was a Model 3h. A tritium compass will not work. This is the type of compass that needs to be recharged by torchlight. As soon as I received it, the phosphorescent pads that are attached to the "W" and "E" markings had fallen off and were chasing each other within Fortunately I was able to exchange it for one that was free from this problem. As a result, I would have returned this compass for a refund if I did not need it for an upcoming course. I am disappointed that the item's description may have misled me.
As a result, this item would be advertised as Military Grade when in fact, it's a very flimsy piece of stuff That's not rugged in the slightest. A defective item or one that was damaged upon arrival was received. It is not a free call Floats around, but is simply a flotation device. Whether or not this item's condition was a result of it not being in the original packaging and being shipped in a soft envelope is unknown. There is nothing wrong with this Compass it doesn't function properly Point North is to the north of that.
I didn't last. There is a sticking problem with the compass and it is starting to stick. Despite the fact that I've had other similar experiences for years*, this is the first time it's happened to me.
Tritium is not a real element It has been lightly used and the bezel leaks and now has a large bubble in the fluid, which renders it completely useless.
