Questions & Answers

"Tritum illuminated for use in total darkness with phosphoric dial," according to the product description. ""Can you tell me what's going on?" ?

This compass is available in two different models: One is Tritium-based, while the other is phosphorescent. br>Tritium is a self-contained element. Because it is mildly radioactive, it is illuminating, but it only lasts 10 to 12 years. It's also pricey.br>The phosphorescent paint version is less expensive, and it will glow for several minutes if illuminated for several seconds with a flashlight. br>Now, if you want to avoid enemy combatants or are a military purist, Tritium is the way to go. Otherwise, the phosphorescent model will suffice.br>In response to the one reviewer who suggested "charging it in the sun all day," I am unaware of any phosphorescent compound that can provide long-term illumination. I'd be delighted if it "only glowed for an hour"!

Is it possible to use this compass in wet conditions? Is it up- How do you compare the military's compasses to your own?

The camenga is the official compass for US soldiers. Although it is waterproof, water may enter the compass capsule if the pressure is too high. It's meant to be used in the open air, not in the water. br>If you want to use an underwater compass, make sure it's made for the job. Camenga is the United States Army's compasses supplier. This is the genuine article.

Is this a real tritium compass, or is it a fake? It is, according to the description, but many of the reviews indicate that it is not. ?

It says phosphorescent, and I'm not sure if it's tritium, but it's so brightly lit up that my buddy saw it from 500 yards away before I dropped into a dry drainage and around the other side of the ridge! It appeals to me and serves my needs well. I'm a retired Army officer, so I can say that while it's not strictly an Army issue, it's probably better to be here rather than there. There isn't enough of a difference to cause an issue.

What country does it come from?

It's written in American English. That should, hopefully, mean exactly what it says!

THIS IS A FAKE LENSATIC COMPASS, NOT A GENUINE ONE
3/5

This is not an "Official US Compass"; it is a cheap knockoff that has been passed off as the genuine article. The compass's markings immediately reveal that it's a forgery. There is also tritium illumination, according to the advertisement. There isn't any light at all. Tritium is an isotope that does not need to be charged by sunlight or light. The compass face is made of plastic, and it's not even good plastic. The dial is also made of plastic, and it's cheap plastic at that. BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. DO NOT BELIEVE THIS WHEN READING A MAP OF ANY KIND. GET YOUR CMMG RIGHT NOW! It is costly, but it is authentic.

The compass is identical to the one I used in the army
5/5

My son and I both do a lot of hiking with Boy Scouts, and we used to use the cheap clear plastic compasses that worked okay, but nothing compares to this compass! br>They are costly, but if properly cared for, they should last a lifetime and be passed down to your children. br>It's simple to use and extremely long-lasting. The fact that it is made in the United States is a huge plus! br>The dial is nice and firm, with no slop in the movement, and it's easy to line up on your map. br>I'm glad I finally got my hands on these!.

After six months, the ice cream was frozen

What causes a compass to freeze after six months of sitting on a home desk?.

Junk

I "charged" it all day in the direct sun and it only stays lit for about an hour, so once the sun sets, you're out of luck.

A compass belt pouch isn't something that should be overlooked
4/5

Hikers learn how to use a map and a compass from me. Although I use a baseplate compass, I wanted to show how to use a lensatic compass. The Compass 27 is well-made, but the pouch is made of thin nylon that is very inexpensive. It began to tear almost instantly. The snap came out with a bang. A tough compass calls for a tough case. br>br>Follow-up-on-up-on-up-on-up-on-up-on-up-on They are sending out a new pouch as a result of their excellent customer service. I received a prompt reply to an email I sent through their website.

Let's get back to basics
5/5

I bought two of these for our two outdoor-loving grandsons. They are eight and nine years old, and they enjoy things like compasses and other male-oriented items. I ordered the books to go with them in order to teach them how to use them with maps as well, so they can learn how to know where they are without using a gps with their father's help. Because they are well-made and have some weight to them, they should last a long time. They're standard military compasses, so they'll be able to withstand almost anything or any location where the boys will eventually find 'the big adventure. ' Their fathers have told me that finding them under the Christmas tree this year will make them very happy.

A compass that is always accurate
5/5

Compasses made by Cammenga are excellent. I'm a map and compass guy at heart, and this one is the best. I've used flat map compasses, engineering compasses, low-cost items, and high-cost items (why are Suunto compasses so expensive?). Cammenga is the compass I use the most. (By the way, did you know that when you use a map and compass, you're actually storing waypoints and landmarks in the Mark 1 skull filler? Are you as lost as you were when you started your journey when you return home from your destination if you used a GPS or an online map system to get there? )br>br>My only criticism is that Instead of phosphorescent, I got tritium. I just clung to it because I needed it right away.

For most intermediate hikers, this is an excellent compass
5/5

This compass is of comparable quality to the one I received as a Marine. In fact, it's probably for the best because I wasn't given a Cammenga, unlike the majority of people. It's still in my possession, and it's almost identical to the original. The only difference I can see between this one and the one I was given is that the issued one is completely devoid of any markings. The two are within 2° of each other, and a third compass I checked was within that accuracy as well.
