It appears to be well-built and well-thought out. So far, everything seems to be going swimmingly. br>br>I'm afraid I can't comment on the 16k strikes. However, I've already lit a couple of fires just to get rid of the yucks. One was made from scraped lint, and the other was made from frayed wood shavings. It produces a good amount of sparks, and catching one took about a half-dozen tries. Even if I only have 5,000 strikes, the price is reasonable. br>br>The only criticism I have is that the compass appears to be of low quality, but it does function. And for a PSK, I wish it was small enough to fit in an altoids tin. But it's cheap enough that I'm thinking of buying a second set and seeing if I can just cut the end off to make it fit.
I was blown away by the amount of sparks that this product produces. The whistle isn't my favorite, but it gets the job done. They use a Hack saw blade for the striker, and it works great. The compass, on the other hand, is a bit of a mystery. lol The Lanyard's paracord is fine, but I believe it could use a little more.
Great product that does exactly what it says on the tin and actually produces more sparks than some other brands I've tried. I appreciate the email confirming that I received the fire starter and that my purchase was satisfactory. I'm teaching my wife and son how to use them and start fires in the event of an emergency. I'll be ordering more, and thank you for producing a quality product. Oh, and the whistle and mini compass on the fire starter are a nice touch, both loud and useful.
It's a great concept. I have yet to try to ignite it (16,000 strikes? The compass was not expected to be useful, but I was hoping for a working whistle. However, it is an admirable effort. It reminds me of something I'd find in an Oriental Trading store.
This is an excellent present for anyone aged nine and up. And the two-for-one deal is fantastic. We used cotton balls to learn how to start with ease, as recommended by other reviews. I've bought it twice more as a gift since then.
It has useful tools built in, so you won't have to lug around as many things. I compared the compass to my expensive compass and was blown away by how accurate it was. In comparison to other strikers, this one is quite good. This is a fire rod that I highly recommend.
He's also never been a member of the Boy Scouts or tried to light a fire with flint. The compass actually works, which is pretty cool. The whistle, on the other hand, was ineffective. Perhaps there's a blockage. I'm not sure what I'm saying.
