Questions & Answers

Can I use this to save a lot of time and effort if I want to write a book?

I wanted to write a book and used Dragon NaturallySpeaking several times to help me. I couldn't "get words on paper" because I spent so much time trying to get the program to work that it had the opposite effect. " I finally gave up and deleted all Nuance files from my computer yesterday." I discovered a better way to write (for me): I use Microsoft Word to type at my own pace, without having to worry about misspellings (which would slow me down). ) After that, I use spell-check to make sure I've finished my thoughts for that session. to come up with a well-thought-out plan piece of writing Voila! Dragon NaturallySpeaking is much easier and faster.

What is the maximum number of computers on which Dragon 13 can be installed? I'd like to use it on two of my personal laptops at home. ?

It's possible to put it on two different devices. That's a maximum of two, and it's only for ONE person. The EULA stipulates this. If you want to install anything else, you must first uninstall from one of the first two. For each requested activation, the activation code is sent to Nuance (online), so they are aware.

Is it possible to use this software to transcribe meetings in real time or from an audio recording? Will it only transcribe one voice, or will it transcribe all of them?

It all depends on what you want to get out of the experience. Unless punctuation ("period.") is spoken. The spoken words will "run on" in the new paragraph. This, however, can be corrected manually once the job is finished. Will transcribe multiple voices, but I believe it "trains" itself to work best with the primary user over time. If users introduce themselves (e.g., "new paragraph."), they will be included in the discussion The rough transcript of "Rick Henderson speaking" will be more clear.

How often does it crash (if at all)? This is a problem I'm having with Dragon 12. ?

If you've read any of my questions and answers, you'll know what I'm talking about. I've had Dragon since it first came out, and there was an issue with version 12 crashing, but I don't think it was the program itself, but rather how it was set up. You won't have a problem opening it in different ways if you always open it the same way. It would cause a problem, which you will discover when you load the program. In Windows 8, it will present you with various options for starting the program. I didn't start from the desktop; instead, I went straight to the start screen. I would have issues with it if I did. It's either loading or it doesn't know who I am. I was able to get to 12 once I was there. I thought 5 was a little better, and I think 13 is even better. These issues were not present in grades 10 and 11. So each generation has its own quirks about how it starts, and the recovery process is a lot better now; if something goes wrong, I usually just pop in the CD and let the program fix it. However, in response to question number 12, I would recommend that you uninstall the program using the uninstaller or from the website and then reinstall it, remembering that you should only run the program once. 1 Start from the start screen, not the desktop, and allow the program to fully load before repeatedly pressing the button in the hopes of speeding things up. Allow the program to begin at its own pace; everyone is in a rush, and that rush will cause you problems. These are merely my thoughts and concerns. This is how I solved it. But remember, if you're going to uninstall the program, do so completely so that your key is freed; otherwise, you'll use them all up. The Dragon people are generally helpful, but you must be diligent in your work.

I'm going to write this review using "Dragon Home 13," and I'll leave any errors in just to show you how accurate it is at first go
3/5

br>br>I'm not a newcomer to "Dragon," having previously used version 9. Why not, I reasoned, when I was given the opportunity to upgrade? And some progress has been made. That's fortunate, because the previous version had some flaws. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about. [Begin parentheses]br>br>Okay, so that's what I'm talking about. I wanted to put something in parentheses, as you can see, and the program did exactly that. In addition, I did not ask for a " in the last sentence. " Right in the middle!" That was the end of Dragon. Then, for some reason, the program clicked something that submitted my review after the paragraph above, and I had to wait 24 hours to pick it up and correct it. (Here's an example of something else. ) "Correct it," I said, and Dragon added "corrected" to the end). I write books and would like to be able to dictate them because speaking is so much faster than typing. For decades, I've worked as a professional writer. When I was in my T's, my mother, who used to work as an executive secretary, taught me how to tie (or should I say "type"). [Insert parentheses] to begin bracketing. Once again, here we are: You can see what the program is doing as I try to put something in brackets. "Teens," I said in place of T's above. " In any case, my typing speed is around 100 words per minute. " So, in order for a program like Dragon to be useful to me, I need to be able to dictate without having all of these problems with the wrong thing being written down and then having a difficult time correcting it. br>br>Advantages and disadvantages: br>br> On the plus side, Dragon is incredibly good at deciphering most of what I'm saying! That's a lovely thing you've done. I think I'd be able to get used to dictating books quickly! On the other hand, the disadvantages are as follows: It's also a major disadvantage - When the program makes a mistake and enters the incorrect information, it can be difficult to identify the error and correct it. In that last sentence, the word "hear" is clearly misspelled, and "corrected" should be "correct it. " " In fact, I have to type "correct it" because if I say it, Dragon interprets it as a command to look for and correct a mistake. Another disadvantage, in my opinion, is that when I'm surfing the web and open a new page while Dragon is active, it interrupts my work by asking if I want Dragon to run the page! Before I can do anything on that page, I need to turn it off. It might be okay if it did it once and I said "no," and it never did it again. However, every time you return to the page, or even refresh it, it comes to a complete stop and asks the same question! Perhaps there's a setting in the program that I'm missing, but it's a pain. br>br>There is a separate Dragon version designed specifically for dictation. As a professional writer attempting to publish books, perhaps that would be a better option! It will set you back around $200. That's something I'll take into account. br>br>These days, when people type a mile a minute, it's hard to keep up. They often don't care if they make mistakes in what they write or say in a chat program or on Facebook, for example. For them, Dragon would be ideal. However, if your livelihood is dependent on the accuracy of your written words, Dragon-style writing is the way to go. It's a problem to make mistakes. (Do you see how "you're" is problematic?) I'm not going to go through the trouble of fixing it here). br>br>I gave up my old version of Dragon because of the problem with mistakes and how to correct them in it. After a while, I discovered that it was simply easier for me to type and avoid the majority of Dragon's errors. Dragon, on the other hand, is said to improve over time and can learn from your other written materials, such as documents and emails. I intended to stick with Dragon 13 for a while (in the last sentence, I said "I'm going to stick with" - (As you can see, Dragon wrote something). Anyway, I'm going to keep using the program because it does some incredible things, and I'd love to be able to simply speak what I want to write down. I can see how this would be especially useful for someone who is unable to type due to a disability. br>br>However, Dragon's mistakes remain a drawback. I plan to return in a few months to let you know how my learning curve, as well as the learning curve of the dragons, is progressing. Again, you'd think that when I say "dragons learning curve," the Dragon program would recognize that the word Dragon is singular and should be followed by an's to indicate ownership of its own learning curve! br>br>I'd rate Dragon a five for its ability to comprehend what you're saying. However, because of the issue of errors and the time and effort required to correct them, I reduce that to a three. br>br>On this one, I'd give it a qualified endorsement.

- br>br>NEW 9-MONTH UPDATE: This is the third time I've given up on Dragon. Finding and correcting errors takes far too long! I'm more efficient and effective when I just type what I want to say. However, as I've stated, Dragon may be exactly what some people are looking for, flaws and all. Furthermore, I fully support the Company's mission, and I anticipate (and hope) that future versions will improve "listening" ability, as well as grammatical and spelling errors, some of which must be due to the product's ability to spell certain words based on the context of the word in the sentence being dictated.

- br>NOTE: THIS PAGE WAS LAST REVISED IN SEPTEMBER 2016. I haven't used Dragon in a long time. In the end, it takes me less time to write and edit the "old way" than it does to correct Dragon's errors. New versions, however, are now available for a significant increase in price. See .

Installation of a nightmare; This is a good product, but it would be difficult to install for the average person
3/5

There are no installation instructions at all, not even "Insert CD into drive and turn it on. " " To troubleshoot problems, one must go to the website. The first issue is that when you click on the Windows installer, the disk thrashes. I tried it on two different computers running Windows 10 and got the same result: Ignore their FAQ titled "Program will not install" and do the following:
1. 2. Select the DVD drive with the right-click menu. br> Install can be accessed by right clicking it. br>br>That's all there is to it. If Nuance had just put those instructions on the box or in the foldout reference manual, I could have saved myself two hours of frustration. br>Also, the optional splitter should not be used. Both the microphone and speaker jacks should be plugged into their appropriate outlets. br>Once I was able to complete what should have been a simple implementation but was made inordinately difficult by Nuance's inept marketers/documenters, the software performed admirably in its tutorial. I'll keep these comments updated if anything changes.

For first drafts, this is a fantastic tool
5/5

I've used three previous versions of Dragon (8,10, and 12), all of which I found to be disappointing. However, with 13 at home (and possibly with 12), this is a different story. 5), the recognition "engine" has turned a corner, and it is now much more accurate, despite the fact that it requires very little training. I've tested it on both my Windows 7 laptop and my Windows 10 desktop, and the results are astounding: free flowing text is 90% accurate, and entire paragraphs are frequently mistake-free. free. br>br>I did invest in a higher-quality USB microphone, but the one that came with the CD was adequate. br>br>However, my primary focus is on first drafts of longer emails and notes, as well as transcribing handwritten fiction into a computer document. I can easily write 1000 words in ten minutes, spend one or two minutes manually correcting errors, and then it's done. This is a great way to save time. If you want to use the product for more complicated tasks or to control your computer, you'll need to adjust your expectations. It'll take longer to "train" it and learn its limitations, with a much longer learning curve required. I haven't tried anything too difficult yet, but this version will give me that opportunity. Simple drafts used to drive me crazy in previous versions.

I've been using Dragon for years and wouldn't be able to work without it
3/5

I've been using Dragon for years and couldn't imagine working without it, but on Windows 8, Dragon 13 (Home edition) is useless. I can read the newspaper before it finishes a paragraph because it moves at such a slow pace. I'm irritated to the point of exhaustion. I've fiddled with the settings and fine-tuned it a few times but it still doesn't work. To finish my work, I'll have to purchase 12 again (I used up all of the previous disk's installations). Adding a few weeks later: br>br>Adding an update: I bought 12 of them. 5 (once more) and put it in place. Right out of the box, it performs admirably. It's quick, precise, and a pleasure to use. What happened to the number thirteen? I see that the price has been reduced to half of what it was before, so save your money and go with 12. THIS is the Dragon I've known and adored all my life! P. br>br>P. br>br>P. br>br>P. If the Nuance representative who has commented on other negative posts is reading this, I'd appreciate a refund of the $100 I spent on 13, which was completely wasted.
