Selected User Reviews For IBM ViaVoice 10 Standard Edition

It's not perfect, but it's a good starting point
3/5

For reasons I'll explain, I gave ViaVoice a middle rating. I started having hand problems about a dozen years ago, and I stopped playing the violin for a while because I was worried about my typing ability. I saw ViaVoice on sale for $30 with a $20 rebate in a computer store. I use a Mac, but my wife uses a PC, so I figured it was worth a shot on her computer for $10. I was surprised at how well it worked, allowing me to dictate into SpeakPad or Word; however, my wife objected to having it on her computer because it took so long to start up, so she gave it to a relative. ViaVoice became available for the Mac a few years ago, and I bought it for $140. However, it never performed as well as the PC version and, in fact, became extremely unreliable, freezing just as I thought it was getting better. When I complained, Apple admitted that it didn't work properly, but that there was nothing they could do about it. Dragon NaturallySpeaking for Macintosh was released about a year ago, and I was confident that it would work with my new iMac. After paying my $200, I inserted it into my machine only to be told that it was too large for my computer to handle. After some back and forth at the Apple Store, I was told that my machine lacked the necessary Intel chip and that my money would be refunded. br>br>I decided to get a used PC dedicated to ViaVoice, and I bought an in-box ViaVoice PC from Amazon for $50. the- box ViaVoice and my next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to- My next-door neighbor gave me a computer that her son was going to get rid of, and everything works fine. br>br>Forget it if you're looking for a voice recognition system that will write without you having to look back. However, if you lower your expectations and practice patience, you will save a lot of time and thousands of keystrokes. Its vocabulary will occasionally astound you, both in terms of what it knows and what it doesn't. Making a Latin-language log. It immediately came up with Santiago, Puerto Montt, Punta Arenas, and Puerto Natales when I mentioned an American trip I took a few years ago, but it took several tries to get Ushuaia, which is understandable given that everyone pronounces the name differently. More aggravating was its inability to understand my pronunciation of penguin (which it now does. ) Its immediate recognition of the word shillelagh, which I had never seen in print and had no idea how to spell, was a pleasant surprise. It also suggested a 13-letter family name that isn't very common. The most common issue is with words with only one syllable. br>br>The correction window is essential because, with up to eight options, you have a good chance of finding what you said. So, don't get ahead of yourself; every couple of sentences, go back and review what you've written. br>br>It's not perfect, but it's functional and even entertaining.

ViaVoice is a voice-over-internet protocol that allows you to communicate with It was a lot less difficult than I expected
4/5

This program is more effective than I had anticipated. My voice was set up in a matter of minutes. If you have trouble typing and want a great program to help you easily produce text documents, you'll love this program. I didn't clock it, so it may have taken longer than I thought, but I was enjoying the experience, so it wasn't difficult.

Via Voice is my preferred method of communication over Naturally Speaking
5/5

It's simple to use and includes features such as scanning documents I've previously scanned and dictating new words. It works well for me and is simple to use. It can write to Word and its own program, which can then be pasted into a document, and the tech support was excellent! Because I enjoy it so much, I own three copies.

ViaVoice is a voice-over-internet protocol that allows you to communicate with This was a huge disappointment
3/5

ViaVoice does not give you your money's worth; it appeared to work fine at first, but the more I used it, the worse it became, contrary to what the program is supposed to do. It takes a long time to "train" the software. I did this, however, in the hopes of improving its performance. Unfortunately, it got worse, not better, after spending all that time doing it. It's gotten to the point where I can't use the app anymore. It randomly inserts words that have nothing to do with what I'm saying, some of which are foreign, as I dictate. If you say, "Now is the time for all good men to come to their country's aid," you'll probably get, "Avarice, now is the Bois time for all good men to Gwendolyn. " " Help is difficult to come by, and if you go to the IBM or ScanSoft websites, you'll have to pay to get it. This software is not to be purchased.

This one is a waste of time

I don't know if it was just me, but I couldn't get this to work. A more expensive version, I reasoned, might have worked better.

It's starting to look good
4/5

I thought voice recognition software had finally progressed to the point where I would consider purchasing it. According to my research, IBM appears to be the best option; the Standard version is all you need for dictating reports, articles, letters, and other documents; however, email will necessitate a more advanced version. br>It's actually quite effective. The key is to devote time at the start to acclimating it to your voice and correcting any errors that arise. It's no longer going to be Star Wars (Scotty: "How charming is a keyboard. "), but it's effective and has significantly reduced my wrist pain from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. br>Not quite 5 stars; I am a harsh critic; however, it is well worth the money, and I use it on a daily basis in my work.

Good

I recently purchased viavoice after reading reviews about its usability from other users. It's the same as when you start a new program for the first time. It will take some time to get used to. On XP, I was able to run my program. During installation, I turned off security and then enabled it again. After installation, the feature is enabled. All you have to do now is fine-tune it for your particular setup. When I contacted tech support, they informed me that I should have brought Dragon with me. I chose to stick with viavoice because after a voice test, the software recognizes your voice, making it a useful program.
