Questions & Answers

Is this compatible with the Windows 7 operating system?

Yes, I use it on a Windows 7 computer, and it works fine; I did have a problem for a short time, but that was due to my sound card, not the Dragon.

Is Windows 8 compatible with this?

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be possible. Windows Vista Professional is my operating system, and it serves me well. It should work with any Windows product, I believe.

What is the difference between Dragon and Windows Speech Recognition?

I tried the Windows Vista speech program and almost threw my laptop out the window! It was so frustrating, adding words every time I took a breath and trying to predict what I was going to say. That was not the case with Dragon. We're still getting to know one another, but I like it better than Vista. I hope this has been of assistance.

I'm not a computer whiz, but is it difficult to set up and use?

It's very straightforward- Place the CD in the player and follow the on-screen instructions. To get started, it takes about 30 minutes to set up and configure to your speech pattern. I've worked in the computer industry for more than 30 years, and this program continues to amaze me!

Do you have any writing skills? Windows 7 is your operating system
5/5

Get this. Right out of the box, the accuracy is astounding. For a period of five years at the very least - perhaps for a longer time - I've been using the speech recognition software that comes standard with almost every version of Windows. Prior to that, I'd been using IBM's Via Voice since the beginning. br>br>I wouldn't have considered Dragon (since its Windows counterpart is free), but I saw Dragon in action as part of some online training, and the instructor's results with Dragon were far better than what I'm used to with Windows' speech recognition, even after years of "training. " I looked into Dragon alternatives. br>br> I'm running Windows 7, so I was looking for positive feedback from other users who were running the same operating system. br>br>Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 appeared to be the most appropriate for my needs. (I'm a writer, so I know what I'm talking about. ) In my home office, I dictate my articles and books. ) Not 11. Versions 5 and up are recommended, with version 11 being the most popular. br>br>As a result, I purchased this. I was terrified as I was downloading it onto my computer. I have 2GB of RAM, which is half of the recommended 4GB, according to the software. br>br>During use, I was hoping that my Blue Yeti microphone would compensate for any issues. I didn't have to be concerned at all. br>br> I used my Yeti microphone, and I used the four-channel software to "train" the software. I then tested Dragon in my Scrivener software with a minute reading from Alice in Wonderland. br>br>Then I tested Dragon in my Scrivener software with a minute reading from Alice in Wonderland. Results: br>br> 100% accuracy right from the start.

I'm impressed and would recommend this to anyone who wants true smart speech recognition software. Free is nice (as an alternative to Windows), but superb accuracy - as well as the time saved - Dragon gives it to you. It was well worth the money!.

For dictation, it's almost perfect
4/5

This software saves me a lot of time when I need to take notes from printed material or type a letter because I am a "hunt and peck" typist. I don't use the more advanced features; instead, I use it for simple dictation, which Dragon excels at. It also learns your speech patterns and adjusts them over time if you create a profile and save your changes. It does, on occasion, make amusing interpretations of what you say (for example, the word "pornography" is typed as "per knocker fee," which just sounds wrong and always cracks me up). It will occasionally type words when I sneeze or cough (apparently Dragon thinks my sneezes sound like "him and him and him"). It also occasionally suffers from common internet typos, such as failing to use they're/ their at the appropriate times. I still have to proofread in case Dragon misunderstood what I said, but it's usually because I speak quickly and don't always pause in between words. If there are any drawbacks to Dragon, I'd have to say that this version won't run on anything older than Windows 7 (I tried downloading it to my Windows 8 tablet). Nuance was also aggressive in trying to sell upgrades for a while, but they appear to have eased up on that now.

It claims to be compatible with Windows XP, but it was not
3/5

Where can I find a complete list of System Requirements on the item's description page? Before buying anything, especially software, I always read about it and look at reviews. So I was overjoyed when I read the information and discovered that it was compatible with Windows XP! I'd been curious about the software for a while and had hoped to find something similar. As a result, I went ahead and purchased it. It was immediately mailed and arrived in just a few days. I was overjoyed when it arrived! I turned on my computer, inserted the disc, and everything seemed to be working fine until it suddenly said it couldn't install due to a lack of RAM. "WTF!" I exclaimed. " Then I went on a search for the additional system requirements information. It was nowhere to be found on the two small pieces of paper in the box, nor on the dvd-ROM. rom's coverlet, which seems like a natural place for them. I begin searching the box, opening the small information cover, but there is nothing there. What had happened to it? On the bottom of the box, in small print. NOT on the back or inside the cover, as most companies do, but on the bottom in FINE PRINT. "RAM:" it says, and I quote. Windows XP and Vista require at least 1 GB of RAM. [information about Windows 7 and Windows 2003/2008] For Windows XP and Windows Vista, we recommend 2 GB of RAM. [Read on for more information on Windows 7 and Windows 2003/2008]. " Okay, fine, I'm aware that I have more than 1 GB of RAM and have double-checked. So, from a technical standpoint, it should be working and installing without a hitch. However, this is not the case. That "minimum amount" appears to be a bunch of nonsense. As a result, I'll be returning this tomorrow and looking for another Voice-to-Text option. I'm guessing it's text or even an older version of Dragon. Unfortunately, Amazon only lists "Works with Windows XP/Vista" as a system requirement. etc". As a result, I'm not sure what I'll do. |br>br>For those who are interested, here is the complete list of system requirements, which is not provided about: br>br>"During the installation process, your system is checked to see if it meets the minimum requirements; Dragon NaturallySpeaking will not be installed unless these requirements are met.
