Software that works well; It was a difficult installation
5/5

First, the positive: once installed, the software performs admirably. There is a learning curve to the software, so be patient with yourself and the software. Although the headphones that come with the software are adequate, you may prefer to use your own. It is well worth the $30 price tag, which is what I paid for the software. br>br>Now for the bad news: the installation did not go as planned. I'm working on a new project right now. I knew it wasn't the problem because I had an up-to-date Windows 7 machine with plenty of RAM. The software would not install from a DVD for some reason. So I went to the website and got a free upgrade to version 10 there. 1 Because the box had a sticker on it that said Windows 7 compatible, this is the same software that came on the DVD. to cut a long story into a few paragraphs on my computer by preventing the software from fully downloading A slew of error messages kept popping up. I did some research online and discovered that doing a clean boot start to my computer (which you can Google) is the best way to go. A clean boot start is simply starting up your computer with very few programs running in the background. Simply insert the DVD after completing the clean boot process, and it will begin to install. Remember to return your computer to normal boot mode after you've finished. The software began to install from there; it took some time, but it completed the process. I've started using it and so far I'm very pleased with it. It was well worth the money!.

How did I ever get by without it? br>br>I'm not a great typer, and my handwriting isn't the best
5/5

It's almost impossible to read. I purchased Dragon naturally speaking voice recognition for dictation about a year ago. It took some time for me to adjust to gathering my thoughts before dictating them, but now I can't imagine life without it. The precision is excellent - The speed is also important. My writing output has skyrocketed (to use a phrase from my mouth) br>br>These days, whenever I have to write something (emails, forum and blog posts, technical documents, etc. ), I use Dragon - Unless it's a phrase or less. br>br>Since the Amazon Kindle 2, there has been a shift in the market. I've been posting a lot in the Amazon forums since the April 29th update was announced - NaturallySpeaking was used to dictate them all. You can see how accurate my postings are by looking at them. br>br>Dragon also allows you to interact with apps using your voice. I didn't buy the product to do this at first, but I've come to rely on it in a few situations over time. It works well (there are a few instances where it gets confused between a dictation and a command, but Dragon has a dictation window that can be used to solve this issue). br>br>Even though they claim that training isn't required with version 10, I found it worthwhile to invest the 20 minutes. Also, if you make a mistake while dictating, take the time to correct it in Dragon - As it "learns" your writing style, accuracy rises dramatically. After I've dictated a piece, I've discovered that using Dragon to correct punctuation, edit a document, and so on has been a pleasant surprise - It's incredibly simple to do!.

Excellent, addicting, but requires patience
4/5

For personal reasons, I purchased this software. Mostly because I'm in the process of typing up my handwritten journals. I found hand-typing my journals to be a tedious and time-consuming task, and after two years, I had only completed 2 and a half of my 18 journals. Without a doubt, if I had continued by hand, I would have faced nearly two decades of transcription. On Monday, I received Dragon Naturally Speaking, and by Wednesday evening, I had managed to accurately dictate an entire journal. This program is a godsend. br>br> br>br>However, getting used to the learning curve, not only in terms of using the program but also in terms of the program learning you, requires a lot of patience. I completed a few quick tutorials and attempted to jump right into my task, but I ran into numerous "speed bumps" along the way. I found it beneficial to return to the Accuracy module and complete some additional trainings. It takes some time to get used to; br>br> Adjusting your voice to be heard, as well as speaking in dictation (for example, giving punctuation commands). ) I found this program to be an invaluable part of my computer usage, as well as a wonderful convenience in my daily Internet interactions (such as dictating this review!). ) I'm glad I found something that serves a purpose other than my original purpose for using it and has managed to establish itself as a staple - It's almost a requirement - br>br>Anyone thinking about using this program, whether for fun or for personal or professional reasons, will need patience to adjust to this new technology that at first appears science fiction. I find that speaking as if I'm telling a story to a small child helps me pace myself and allows the program to better understand what I'm saying and where the words are being said.
