despite doing research about what to feed my pigs (what vegetables, that is) in order to keep them happy and healthy for many more years to come, I did not know about how critical it was to select a good quality pellet. Despite the fact that the pellets were likely never fresh and long past their expiration date, I allowed my guinea pigs to eat as much pelleted food they liked, topping off their food bowl every once in a while to keep the pellets fresh. stupid explaining how confused I was, but I had no idea what the important differences between guinea pig pellets were - just some information about the different pellets I was giving my guinea pigs. The only thing you must know is that you should avoid trail mix that contains seeds. It was rather abrupt at that point that I had to stop purchasing the very cheap brand I used to buy. In my assumption that there was an entire bag of unopened items with my belongings (after just relocating to a new house), I had wildly wronged myself. I've been looking for plain guinea Pig pellets at Walmart near my new place for weeks now, but there is no stock. The food on the menu caught my interest on a whim. The order arrived just in time, and I don't have time to gradually switch over like I planned. So I put them straight into the new pellets. It was the biggest mistake I ever made in my entire life (of being severely bipolar/impaired). My guinea piggies did not seem to be in pain before the switch (while attempting to urinate), despite loving Romaine (and sometimes Parsley). As for the sludge, I was unconcerned about it- If you have low-grade urinary stones or have urine that is yucky Diet high in calcium. In a strange turn of events, the switch from a $3 bag of food to this food caused them to squeal and wiggle in pain and fight with each other. In summary, it appears that a very small percentage of guinea pigs cannot tolerate the calcium carbonate (some are prone to sludge or bladder problems before eating this food). The only food I would feed a guinea pig if I was going to get one was this one. The first brand I bought was another brand, so I have to mix the two brands. My pets get fresh fruit and veggies at night and good hay to sleep on. After owning over a dozen guinea pigs in the past 15 years, you need to keep in mind that they have been overbred. It seems that they all have health problems or at least they find me when they are sick. I have cancer in the rear leg of Sammie, the one I currently have. 6 months ago, he had a mass removed, but it came back more aggressive. He also had a bladder stone removed at 6 months old. There are a lot of good exotic vets across the country, but it's best to find one who also works at a zoo. many medical conditions to my credit, ranging from incurable upper respiratory strep infections to lymphoma and A bleeding sore throat is the worst symptom.
