Questions & Answers

Does it have a fresh taste?

Is it fresh? Can you tell me what dried hay is? Despite the fact that the expiration date was several years later when it was received, the bunnies were enamored with The bag should be kept tightly closed to prevent it from going bad. If you want fresher, you can visit a farmer, but bunnies said that was fine with

Will you be including a box with this? Are you thinking of resealable bags or containers?

In addition to the clip or twist tie on the bag, the 9# hay comes in a bag. The bunnies like Oxbow hay because it is good for them*

What are the chances that rabbit will ?

It is so much fun for our rabbit.

The difference between this and the theories of Timothy Hay? How similar to Timothy hay is it to this? Does it have more fluffy bits?

A more noticeable difference between Timothy Hay and Orchard Grass Hay is its less fluffy bits. Despite the fact that critters like the fluffy bits, I prefer the Orchard Grass since the leaves are thicker, fuller, and softer. In my experience, Timothy Hay has a tendency to be the thick, round stalks that my guinea pigs may not The hard stalks of the hay I placed in their hopper did not allow them to eat most of it, so I had to throw it away. It was easy to eat everything in the Orchard Grass since they would gobble it up and hardly anything would be left behind. You should now have an answer to

There is plastic in the hay, and the batches are inconsistent in quality
3/5

In the past, Oxbow was a top quality manufacturer of pet products. However, their quality control has deteriorated over the last few years. Previous large 40 oz size bags of hay had short, dry strands that were densely clumped and dusty. We were able to use a portion of it for our rabbit after filtering. So I decided to reorder it, assuming it would be a one-time order. We chose two sizes smaller this time. This QC was not only far worse if our bunny had invested in the shredded RED PLASTIC object buried in the hay, but it would have caused her death. In case you weren't aware, dogs can choke but they cannot vomit. This time, it was filtered again. A second bag yielded many dry 4" sticks dispersed throughout the hay, and a few 2" ones together with a couple of Your equipment, processes, and quality control need to be reviewed by the company. Small pets are a great addition to our family!.

There are dangerous stems inside! The product and a bag of timonthy hay I purchased for my bunny about a month ago
3/5

I gave him timonthy hay until I ran out and then have him orchard hay before purchasing more. He seemed to like that more than the orchard hay so I ran out to buy A bunch of sharp stalks surprised me and made me unhappy. How could I have missed them? Please take a look at the images I attached. I don't quite know how to describe them. Unknowingly, I grabbed at a handful of hay and saw these things buried within it, and when my fingers reached for them, I yelled in pain. Even if my bunny tried to eat them, I can't imagine how hurtful they could have been. The fact that this is happening can not be believed by a long-time oxbow lover! It is important to be cautious with this product. I've had excellent experiences previously, so I gave it two stars, but I have no desire to try it again after this recent.

Allergic reactions are a gift from God
5/5

You may be allergic to bunnies or guinea pigs, but you should try this before you give up on them. A common cause of allergies is Timothy hay. Some people who think they are allergic to their pet actually have a hay allergy. Tim is so difficult on people with allergies that I have no idea how he manages it. The dust is much higher in my case, so it's easier to get a tan. It was hard for me to find Orchard Grass Hay at my local pet stores, so I was grateful to find it on Amazon at a much lower price than I could find it at my local.

There have been times when I have gotten a good batch, but this is not the norm
3/5

There are often rave reviews for this product, and I wonder what makes it so popular. Timothy Hay causes severe allergic reactions in everyone in the household, so we have to purchase Orchard Grass. A number of brands have worked for me. I suppose it's true what they say, you get what you pay for, so I think Oxbow seems to be most affordable. It happens on occasion that I get a good batch of hay, but most of the time, the pigs simply dislike it. It is almost as if they spread the hay all over their cage to indicate that it is only good Our last batch had so little hay, a quarter of the bag was just a few inches long pieces of hay. As if it came from the bottom of the barrel, the dust had a hazy appearance. Once, our bag of hay contained a cigarette bud. When our kids filled the hay box, the bud was found and promptly pulled out of the hay. Although I don't know what quality control at Oxbow looks like, I feel like I'm playing roulette every time I purchase a bag from them.

It makes me sick to my stomach to breathe It's because of the following reasons that I HATE hay The initial impression I had was that the smell and texture (VERY soft) were good
3/5

I wish I could have an army of guinea pigs like my solitary one, The sheer amount of food that she ate resulted in her eating it rapidly with each heap Each and every day I had to give her a huge pile of books. The amount of food she consumed was never enough The girl did not pause for even a moment, but continued eating until every last bit of food was gone. Then she began squealing for more, continuously, just would not stop. I was hopping inside for some time, trying to keep her quiet, thinking wow, she's really into this, and it was good and all. Later, I became convinced that I was mistaken. The quality of this hay is poor. It caused her stools to become strange as soon as she started eating it. It is normal for Guinea pigs to have semisolid stools Pellets that are hard as rocks I found the cleanup relatively easy. She has been having trouble passing stools since she began eating this hay because they are all mushy and flat and all over the place all the time. Whenever they come in contact with the bedding, her feet, or anything else, the stools stick to it. She must be cleaned several times a day otherwise her cage will become unkempt. Although I have no idea what they may have put in the hay, it certainly SEEMS to be addictive. The way this grass looks is unlike any I have seen before. A regular Timothy hay had previously been provided to her by OXbow It was always a bit stiff last time I bought it, almost like a stick, and she wouldn't eat it at all, so I threw it away. I feel that money is wasted. The reason I ordered this Orchard Grass hay was to feed my horses better, but I'm so sorry I ordered it. Now that Oxbow seems to have 'gone to the dogs,' I don't know what to get for her.

An orchard grass for Guinea Pigs that is of high quality
5/5

Orchard grass is one of the best forages to feed my guinea pigs, since it provides them the nutrients they require for healthy digestion and healthy teeth, but contains fewer calories than other hay, so they do not get overweight. Chewy usually has a $49 minimum for free shipping, and that is what I typically order from them when I need pet supplies. Purchasing hay from Amazon is more effective for me even if the product is a little more expensive, the free shipping is worth it, and I wind up getting it at a lower price than I would at the local pet store. Since I have been looking for high quality products for my piggies, I have found Oxbow to be the best.

It's great to use instead of Timothy Hay
4/5

The items I bought were similar to- The timothy hay was reasonably priced (a little cheaper). I enjoyed that first purchase a lot, but the quality went downhill. We were experiencing a lot of dust and dust was making our guinea pigs sneeze despite our air filters, so I had a hard time picking up hay any more. I probably am way too tight with this stuff. It isn't as cheap as last year's. I can't believe how much softer it is and the horses flip every time I open the box so they can get their hay. Fill feeder bags with seeds. It doesn't take much for them to dive into the bag itself, and every now and then I have to rescue a trapped piggy eagerly eating its way out. Wrap up the plastic bag tightly and find a way to keep the flaps of the box closed (we use a heavy bottle of cage cleaner with the tip facing up and tilted on its side so it doesn't leak). A stale product will spread dust around if it is not stored properly. I still find it to be a much better buy than anything else that I've seen.
