Every year on New Year's Day and July 4th, I purchase these for Lawrence, the Green Iguana. They don't burn out in six months, but their UVB production does, so I buy new, put the old in a new box labeled "used," and reuse them around the house when other bulbs burn out. Larry switches between basking, these, and just laying around the enclosure on his own. These bulbs, or something similar to them, are essential for preventing MBD in your Iguana. Metabolic Bone Disease is a condition that occurs when the body's metabolism is disrupte That is something I cannot emphasize strongly enough. If your lizard isn't exposed to enough UVB for even a short period of time, he or she could develop serious health problems. Larry appears to get enough UVB every six months. Because we live in Ohio, the month of November is a good choice. until the end of January is a hundred days of grey in a nutshell. Increasing the importance of UVB bulbs. Iguanas are difficult to keep (3 years in and no way would I recommend one to a beginner, IMHO), and they can live into their 20s and grow to be 6 feet long. Not to mention mating cycles, tail whipping, bites, scratches, and a slew of other factors to consider. As a result, a contented Iguana is much easier to look after. UVB exposure is necessary for a happy Iguana. Get the bulbs and make sure they're replaced on a regular basis. It will be greatly appreciated by your lizard.
I've never had to write a review like this before, but the poor quality of the product I recently received compels me to warn others about this seller (Luving Pets). I purchased a two-bulb package, which was a great deal. When I opened the shipping box containing the bulbs, I was surprised to find that they had not been bubble wrapped. Then both reptisun boxes were open, and I was able to simply slide the bulbs out? I remained optimistic, but when I plugged them in and saw how dull they were, my fears were confirmed. The one on the left, in particular, is dim and flickers. I screwed them both in (and removed my basking bulb) to demonstrate how bad they are and how different they are.
I'm not sure how long it will last. These are short bulbs for shallow lamps, and I've never been able to use one until it stopped working, so they last a long time. The fixture is probably about 5 inches long. This isn't a light bulb with a heating element. It should be used in conjunction with a heat source to provide the necessary UV rays. They're a little on the pricey side, but they last for a long time.
I purchased two bulbs from Zoo med reptisun, but only one of them worked. I'm a returning customer who will continue to purchase zoo med products for my Beardie.
It was an affordable price.
Even with two bulbs, it is very dim.
For my reptiles, it was exactly what I needed.
