A 50-watt mini halogen bulb is equivalent to a 100-150-watt incandescent bulb.

Questions & Answers

Is it necessary for the night red to be so bright? Is it okay for the lizards to eat it?

Red light should never be used on reptiles because it causes them to lose their sense of depth. It isn't "harmful" to their eyes in most cases. At night, no heat or light is required unless the temperature falls below 65°F, in which case a non-electric heater can be used. To raise the overall ambient temperature, use a light heat source like a Ceramic Heat Emitter.

I have a bioactive tank with plants that measures 12 by 12 by 18 inches. Which bulb is recommended for maintaining the health of my plants as they grow?

Look for a plant or grow light that has a low wattage. Plant growth will not be aided by these bulbs.

What is the quality like?

Within a few weeks, the color coating begins to flake off, and the bulbs begin to blow after about a month. I found a 10 pack sold by 12Vmonster to be better in terms of price, quality, and reliability. For the price of two, you get ten. They're transparent, but they last for months and generate a lot of heat. I purchased mine in July of last year and have only had to replace the bulb once since then. It was every 2-hours with the Zilla bulbs. 4 weeks.

Is this a full-spectrum light source?

No, it's not the case.

HOT and TINY
5/5

I used a sock to install the bulb. Touching a halogen bulb with your bare hands is not a good idea. The effectiveness of the bulb can be harmed by oils and dirt/dust on your skin. It will also shorten the bulb's lifespan. At a distance of around 13 feet, the bulb temperature was measured. I measured temperatures with a probe and an IR handheld thermometer during normal operating hours and found them to be 5". The gun was held at a distance of about 12" from the probe and was pointed directly at it. So at 13. 5" The temperature in my basking spot (or hot side) is always 135°. I was getting this temperature on both devices, as you can see from my photos. In my opinion, this is a fantastic product, but it is one of the hottest basking bulbs I've ever used at that distance. Even so, I'm using two in my 70 gallon tank and getting an ambient temperature of 80 degrees. It's not a big deal for me because I can adjust the height of my lights. If the 50W is too hot, they also have a 25W option. I also have a 25W on the cool side (the one over the water dish), which I measured. I like how compact it is, and even the fixture is small. These are something I would strongly recommend.

I like these heat bulbs because I have three different wattages right now
5/5

They are both safe and effective. br>br>I started with a 25 Watt day blue bulb, which worked fine during the summer, but I needed to upgrade to a 50 Watt day blue bulb for the winter. br>br>If anyone needs assistance, my home is 68 degrees Fahrenheit, and the 25 watt day bulb kept my 18" 18" 24" at around 70 degrees after a few hours of initial setup. br>br>The 50 watt day bulb maintains a temperature of 76 F - 78 F in the tank. The temperature is 85 degrees Fahrenheit. That's just right for my Whites Tree Frog. br>br>However, I ordered a 25-watt red night bulb, which did not work. But, because I've never had a bulb fail before, I believe it was just a bad bulb. It didn't overheat or break; instead, it would flicker off and on before turning off completely. br>br>Customer service was fantastic; all I had to do was tell them it didn't work, and they immediately replaced it or gave me a refund. br>br>After determining that I didn't require the night bulb because my home was sufficiently warm at night, I received a refund. br>br>Overall, I would strongly recommend these bulbs. I've had no problems with them in the past few months. It's very safe and effective, and it's also reasonably priced.

Buy a few of these every time you go shopping
5/5

As someone who has had four of these dome lights in their reptile supply box since the beginning, I can attest to the fact that they are fantastic for small or baby reptiles. These lights are perfect for amphibians, and I've been using them since I first got into reptiles. However, these lights are hit or miss. Some are temporary, lasting only a day, a week, or even months. BUTT BUTT BUTT BUTT BUTT BUTT BUTT BUTT BUTT BUTT br>br>I had a few left over from the previous two years! I know you should change your reptile's bulbs every 6 months or so, which I do with all of my lights except one of these. I literally had one of these dark bulbs turned on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for two years! It lasted a long time, and the only reason it died was because I accidentally bumped the old dome light, which fell and didn't break the bulb, but it wouldn't turn on anymore. The only reason I never swapped it was to see how long it would last. I have a temperature gun and always check and feel the temperature in the cage; it only dropped 3 degrees from what it was emitting when it was new, but the flooring remained at a comfortable temperature. I'd keep an eye on it for the next two years. br>br>It appears to me that these lights last longer if you don't turn them off all the time. SO I USE THE RED LIGHT FOR A 24/7 LIGHT EVERY DAY AND THEY SEEM TO LAST ME LONGER. I've used these lights for a variety of purposes, including: Iguanas (BABY/JUVENILE); Iguanas (JUVENILE); Iguanas (JUVENILE); Iguanas (JUVENILE); Iguanas NOT FOR ADULTS•br>(FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE NEW TO REPTILES, PLEASE BE EDUCATED BEFORE GETTING ANY IGUANA)br>br>Emperor Scorpion Scorpion of the Desert – br>Dragon with a beard - The ball python is a type of python that lives in a ball. br>br>If your tank is 30 gallons or more, I'd recommend having two of these depending on the type of reptile you have. My Beardrd dragon had two of each daytime and nighttime a heat emitter. br>br>I ALWAYS BUY 3 OR MORE USUALLY JUST IN CASE, and from my expiernce these last longer than the Daytimes. . . RARE that they will actually last lol.

Surprisingly happy with the outcome
5/5

This light appeals to me greatly. This was exactly what I needed in terms of a small heat source. I was worried that the 25-watt setting would be insufficient, but it produces a surprising amount of heat for such a small power. I don't believe their claim that their 25w is equivalent to 50w is accurate. The 75-watt incandescent bulb is exactly what I needed! On my leopard gecko's 24x18x12 Exo Terra (which is also heated by tank heat), I use it as a spot heat. I initially placed it about 4 inches above a flat rock and discovered that it became far too hot to touch the rock, so I tweaked it a little and it's now perfect; it's a focused heat that doesn't affect the cool side's ambient temperature too much. The only drawback for me is that it emits a bright red/white light, but the geckos don't seem to mind. The upside is that you'll be able to take some cool night shots! br>br>UPDATE: br>br> Dec 2019. I'm still smitten with these tiny bulbs, and I've converted all of my other herps to them. Since 2017, the original bulb has been working perfectly. When I've messed up the fixture or knocked it over, it's survived. Unfortunately, as I discovered, they will not survive a fall onto a hardwood floor.

One bulb lasted for more than two years! Amazing! Every month or two, I'd have to buy a new 50 watt incandescent bulb because the old ones would burn out
5/5

I tried every brand, but none of them lasted, so in November 2017, I purchased a Zilla 25 watt blue daylight halogen bulb, as well as the mini dome that went with it. The bulb just burned out today, in December of 2019. On a single bulb that is turned on 12 hours a day, every day, that's more than two years. Over the last two years, I've saved a significant amount of money on bulbs and electricity (a 25 watt bulb produces the same amount of heat as a 50 watt bulb). You can't go wrong with this heat bulb!.

Great, but take care
5/5

For your reptiles, this is an excellent bulb. lasts an eternity Bulb construction is flawless. However, when deciding between 25 watt and 50 watt bulbs, keep in mind that 50 watt bulbs should only be used if your enclosure is very tall and needs to be heated to around 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature is set at 100°F. My bearded dragon lives in a repti zoo enclosure that measures 36x18x24 inches. His basking spot, with the 50 watt bulb, is around 100 degrees, and the enclosure is around 80 degrees. I promise you that 25 watts will be more than enough for non-desert animals.
