Zoo Med Reptile Shelter 3 in 1 Cave, Medium

Years ago I bought a small size to give to a baby leopard gecko, and we were both delighted with it for many years to come. The rock looked realistic, was textured for easy gripping, and was suitable in weight and size for the animal. The gecko spent less and less time in the hide after she grew larger because she could not fit in through the opening (despite the fact that she would still squeeze in even after I thought it was impossible). The medium size that I purchased was for giving her a new hide, and I could not have been any more let down. A cartoon version of it is what I'd describe it as being like. There is something wrong with the coloring, and the surface is smooth instead of textured like before. There is hardly any texture to speak of on the top, other than an unsightly seam from the mold from which it was made. For a gecko its size is probably appropriate now, but I'm not sure if it weighs as much as the small (I went back and examined the 1- this is very thin walled and feels like plastic I can see why so many units arrive broken, since so many four-star reviews were given). In addition to the gecko not being able to climb the slick side of the lid, I'm also concerned that the lid is so lightweight that the now full-grown gecko is likely to slip over it It could be knocked off by a large gecko when entering or leaving it. As for the lid, it sits on top of the bottom, but the fit is far from as good as the original hide. I am generally very disappointed with this result. There was a really good product from Zoo Med once, but it is no longer as good as it once was. The item will be returned to you. My adult female gecko was of the right size to fit into the medium cave of the Exo Terra. She wanted it to, but it did not. Furthermore, a cave this size would be too limited for Thus, I purchased a medium cave from Zoo Med. It was a perfect fit for her. I have noticed after a month of using the cave that it does not keep moisture inside as well as my Exo Terra cave. I mist with sphagnum moss almost every day, and I use sphagnum moss inside. It only needs misting once or twice a week for Exo Terra. It does have a few flaws, but other than that it's pretty good. This design is kind of ugly, as well as the paint job. I hope my little gecko does not care about that.
