Questions & Answers
Carol, 1 pound of gravel per gallon of water is a good rule of thumb. You can use up to 60 pounds of gravel, but if you're not growing rooted plants in the gravel, you won't need that much. A weight of 40 pounds will most likely suffice. You'll need 1. The substrate should be 5 to 2 inches thick. This will be determined by the shape of your tank. Selected User Reviews For Spectrastone Special Blue Aquarium Gravel for Freshwater Aquariums, 25-Pound Bag
I don't usually write reviews, but these rocks have been nothing but a headache for me. I added the 25-pound bag of rock to my 55-gallon tank with no other changes, and my fish all developed bacterial infections within a day. This resulted in additional costs and hassle for me. While the rock itself was the color shown, multiple washes turned my hands blue, and this was before I even put it in the 55 gallon tank. This rock, unfortunately, is not one I would recommend.
In less than two weeks, the rock has turned a cloudy blue color, similar to bleeding blue. I've been doing 25% water changes in the hope that this would help but it hasn't yet yet yet yet yet yet yet yet yet yet I spent around 130 dollars on this product, and I'm afraid it'll end up in the trash. I'll definitely buy new rock somewhere else!.
If you're going to use this stone, you should rince it first. There will be some bleeding of the color. My hand looked like it had been used to slaughter a smurf.
The need to rise is accompanied by dust.
I used it to create a dry creek bed in my backyard, and it turned out beautifully.
Gravel in a lovely color.
This rock is simple to maintain and looks fantastic in my aquarium. My 75 gallon tank was filled with just two bags. The rock's price was reasonable, and it arrived quickly.
It appears to be fantastic.
