Questions & Answers

Is it possible that this is filter media?

Yes, if placed in a media bag.

Is it necessary to boil it before adding it to a cichlid aquarium?

No, there's no need to boil anything; simply put it in the tank.

Will this aid in increasing the hardness of my platy tank's hardness?

It will, in fact. It was necessary for me to use it in order to keep my pH under control.

Will my ph continue to rise or will it stabilize if I leave this in my tank?

It'll settle somewhere, depending on how much you use and how acidic your water is during water changes. The higher the ph, up to a certain point, the more you use.

Our snails' pH has been raised to a healthy level
5/5

We have a 55 gallon goldfish aquarium that we are trying to make healthier and more natural by adding live plants and snails. We knew we had a low pH, but it wasn't until after our big mystery snail died that we discovered it was the cause of his death and shell dissolution. The driftwood in the tank proved to be a major contributor to the issue. br>br>We read that this would be beneficial, and it was. We didn't have to make any other changes to the tank, and the pH level has remained constant at 7. Even with the driftwood still inside, it's a 4. We've added two new mystery snails to the tank, and they're having a great time racing around the tank - It's been over a month. br>br>I've noticed a few inquiries about the amount required and how to achieve a particular pH. Because this coral acts as a buffer, you won't be able to change the numbers much. As long as the pH is less than 7, it will dissolve. 4, continue to raise it until it reaches its destination. At a pH of 7, the water is safe to drink. 4 Because the coral stops dissolving at this point, there is no danger of going too high. This is a natural, chemical-free option that I would recommend. Anyone suffering from low pH can benefit from this free fix.

Boil your crushed coral, at your own risk! In my batch, there are parasites
3/5

The coral is fine, but even after rinsing it for 20 minutes, parasitic worms infested my tank. Imagine my surprise when I discovered 30 planaria worms in my 5 gallon mystery snail tank where nothing had been added or changed except for adding this crushed coral. br>br>From this point on, I will be thoroughly cleaning and boiling the crushed coral. I have moved my snails to a new tank and will most likely have to strip this tank down and start over.

Filter media should be of a good size
5/5

This has saved my tank's life. I didn't have enough aragonite mixed with my sand substrate to keep my ph stable, and I couldn't add any more, so I bought this in the hopes of finding large enough pieces to put in a bag inside my filter. This is chunky enough to avoid slipping through the bag holes, and my ph has remained constant since I added it. It's also a great price for 10 pounds of filter media, which will last me well over a year. I also strewn some on top of my substrate and gently mixed it in to give it a more natural chunky appearance. The kids enjoy looking through the window and picking out all of the tiny shells. My fish have even been caught pushing the small shells around the aquarium to get them in the perfect position. br>br>I will say that you must thoroughly rinse this. Rinse and drain, rinse and drain, rinse and drain, rinse and drain, rinse and drain, rinse and drain, rinse and drain, rinse and drain, rinse and drain, rinse and drain, rinse and drain, until your water Then, just to be safe, rinse and drain a few more times.

It's a great way to boost your pH naturally
5/5

This product did exactly what I needed it to, which was to raise my pH level. It was a pH of 6 in my body. My cycle was stalling because the temperature was 0 or lower. I read on several websites that coral could help you naturally raise your pH. In a media bag for my 10 gallon tank, I used about 1 tablespoon of this stuff and placed it in my HOB (hang on back) filter. My pH had risen to 6 in less than 24 hours. 6,I added another tablespoon full, and my tank is now hovering around 7. My kh was also raised as a result of it. br>br>I prefer not to use chemical alternatives because they can kill your fish if the pH is raised too quickly, and they don't stabilize it, so it's a never-ending battle. Thank you, but no thanks.

In a freshwater aquarium, it's used to boost kh/gh! I had a problem with no kh/gh and a very low ph (around/below 6)
5/5

In my 40 gallon freshwater tank, I have 0). I started with a few tablespoons and gradually increased to about 1/4 cup of this stuff because I didn't know how much to use. I placed it in a small aquarium bag and inserted my filter into it. It gradually increased both, and it took some time to notice a significant change, which was good, before stabilizing the ph at 7. 2 with a kh of 3 and a gh of 5, which suits my tank perfectly. Overall, it appears to be a fantastic product that is performing admirably for the purpose for which I purchased it.

It's fantastic for keeping your tank's pH in check
5/5

You should get a painter's net for this and soak it in the bucket of water for a few hours, draining the water and refilling it with fresh water to remove all of the sand and other residue. You should not simply toss this into your aquarium because it will significantly muddy the water. You should also make sure you have a high-quality filtration system because it will cloud your water temporarily, even after you've soaked it and cleaned it. It took about a half hour for my filter to clear the water back up for me. That's not bad. The advantages of this substrate far outnumber the minor drawback. As a result, I strongly advise you to do so.

Great for dealing with pH issues, but make sure to rinse thoroughly first
5/5

I'm not sure what happened, but my tank's buffering capacity suddenly vanished, and the pH began to drop. I saw on the internet that Aragonite can be used to increase buffering (and thus stabilize/increase pH). It turned out to be a huge success. I put two handfuls of this (well rinsed) into a media bag and waited. It took about two days for my pH to begin to rise again. To keep track of my progress, I used a digital pH reader. I aimed for a score of six. 5 to 7. I took some out when I noticed it was approaching 7. My pH is currently at a comfortable level of 6. 7/6. For the past two weeks, I've been on number eight. I would strongly advise anyone with low pH tap water, pH issues, or fish that require a higher pH to try this. The increase was effective but gradual, and none of my fish seemed to be bothered by it. You can simply toss the pieces when they become too scummy and replace them with the same amount. This bag size will last you an incredibly long time if you use it for any of these things, but make sure you RINSE REALLY WELL. This stuff is practically coated in white powder, and if you don't thoroughly rinse them, the water in your tank will become cloudy. I simply squished them around in the media bag under the faucet for several minutes to rinse them.
