Yes, it did cover the dirt in my 55 gallon tank.
I don't believe so, at least not from what I've seen. They're simply a collection of small polished rocks that I use in my fountain.
You should get rocks for outside from a block and brick store; these are designed for an indoor fresh water aquarium and are far too expensive for that. Just to fill one bag, I needed two. A 40-gallon aquarium with 2 inches of water.
I'm sorry, but I didn't purchase the rocks for a tank.

For my 55 gallon tank, I bought two bags of this. a few months ago, I went to an aquarium; And, while I like how they look in the tank, they're terrible for keeping fish. br>br>I built a freshwater community tank with a good bioload and followed the nitrogen cycle instructions to the letter. After my levels of ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates had spiked and then leveled off (ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates), I discovered that I was having problems with brown algae (silica diatoms), as well as my pleco and snails. My cleaners can't get underneath these rocks because they're too heavy. Food that falls between the rocks rots, causing nitrate levels to rise and necessitating much more frequent cleaning than usual. Furthermore, my gravel vac struggled to remove the crud from these rocks. After weeks of fighting algae and performing more water changes than I expected, I finally decided to remove the rocks and replace them with a fish-friendly substrate. Instead, these rocks will be used in my garden. I haven't had an issue with algae in my tank since I switched these out. br>br>These rocks are very pretty, but they'd probably look better in a smaller tank (5 gallons or less). I don't recommend these for larger tanks (over 10 gal) because you'll be doing more water changes anyway.
They only fill half of the bottom of my 40 gallon tank, but they're lovely. To clear all residue, soak in extremely hot water several times.
This item was purchased for use in an aquarium. Genuine polished stones (not painted or lacquered), large and lovely.
These are stunning rocks. They are the perfect size, not too small, not too big, and give the impression of a lakeside water line. They are also a nice color.
I have a large indoor planter that I wanted to fill with lovely smooth neutral river rocks and artificial plants. I was in desperate need of some rocks, and these were perfect! If I had to make any changes, it would be to reinforce the plastic in which it is packaged. This, however, will not deter me from purchasing additional items! (because I miscalculated and will require more to fill the planter) Excellent Product!.
I used this as the top layer in my 55gal to get the look I wanted, and it worked perfectly. The stones were the exact size and color that I was looking for.
To remove the oily film that came off the rocks, I had to rinse them several times in hot water. When it comes to aquatic animals, I'd be very cautious about using these. I'm not sure what it is, but cleaning it was extremely time consuming and stressful, and it was not suitable for aquarium pets!.
