There was absolutely no leaching. For nutrient feed and air, I've used
This hasn't gone hard yet, and I've been using it for about 4 weeks. It has now been 5 months. The other brand I used became rigid after a while, but this one remains as adaptable as the day I first started using it.
It's made of silicone and can be used to care for tropical fish and aquaculture, as well as grow vegetables in aquaponics, but it's not yet "food safety certified."

Let's start with the advantages. It feels great to touch pure silicon. It's a lot softer and more flexible than traditional clear plastic air line, and it's a lot of fun to work with. Now it's time for the one and only con (albeit a temporary one). Consider how this air line is made: it's extruded, cooled, cut and wound into individual lengths, wrapped in a thin piece of cardboard, and shipped to you. You don't need to unwind it when you get it; simply leave it outside. Simply set it out on the porch for a couple of days. Because it'll have one of the most revolting odors you've ever encountered in your mailbox. However, it's just the lingering odor of production being delivered directly to you. It will fade away, and everything will be fine.
It's a lot better than the clear stuff, which is much stiffer. It's simple to snake around in, the color doesn't scream "I'm a tube," and the algae isn't visible. Getting on and off of fittings necessitates a unique approach: Rather than rocking and pulling the tube, you gradually push the tube's edge away from the nipple. Scrape it off with your fingernail in a circular motion.
However, it is smelly and prone to kinks. In general, it works. Good price, very black/should keep algae at bay, soft, feels like good quality silicone br>br>The main problem is that kinks must be avoided. Because the tubing isn't very thick, even a small 90-degree bend will completely block air flow, so only very slight bends are possible (or a lot more material is required). br>br>It's also quite stinky at first, so you'll need to wash it out with a lot of water. It doesn't stink up the room, but it smells strong when you're about 6 inches away from it. br>br>Overall, I'd buy it again, but I'd prefer to find a similar hose that was slightly thicker/ had more material.
I purchased this item because the description stated that it was silicone tubing; however, it is not. To begin with, it has a chemical odor. The texture and flexibility of silicone are not at all what you'd expect. Finally, this tubing melts when heated only slightly. Silicone is a heat-resistant material that does not melt or reshape in the same way that this one does. I decided to come back.
To keep light out of your hydroponic system, make it nice and dark. Then there's the issue of poor packaging. Some areas became kinked, and cutting them out is the only way to remove the kink. When you need 8 pieces of 6'3" lengths (for a total of 50'), it's not cool. Now I've got three sections with kinks. I need to replace the kinked ones, but I don't want to buy any more kinks. To avoid those nasty kinks, they should roll the tubing around something!.
br>What I received today is much harder and stiffer than the silicone airline tube I previously purchased from them. br>I will return and purchase elsewhere. br>I was extremely disappointed because I required this today.
It blends in better with the background in my fish tank and has yet to show any signs of algae (I'm sure there is some growing on it; it's just harder to see due to the dark color), which is exactly what I wanted.
This is something I've been doing for a long time. Other lines stiffen and become brittle over time, but this one does not; only the part in the water stiffens a little. As a result, I'm in the process of substituting this product for the inferior ones. I've put it through its paces in both fresh and saltwater. (I am a fish breeder. ) This one, hands down, outperforms them all.
