Selected User Reviews For Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Melafix Fish Remedy
This is a two-star rating from me. The reason for this is that API explicitly states on their website that inverts will not be harmed as a result of this. However, when I put a small dose into a 60 gallon tank with six mystery snails and several nerites, all of the mystery snails dropped to the floor right away. They are unable to crawl in any way. I double-checked the dose and found it to be correct. I was extremely disappointed. Now I'm doing water changes and have a massive bottle of melafix that I can't use.
Melafix was used as directed, and the problem sores were gone in less than a week. If you wait too long, this product may not be able to solve your problem, and you may need to resort to prescription medications, but I've used it several times in the last couple of years with excellent results and no negative effects on fish or plants. I didn't give it five stars because it isn't really a medication (it's actually melaleuca or tea tree oil), but more of an astringent, and won't treat viral or severe bacterial issues. Think of it as putting iodine and a band aid on a sore to keep it clean while it heals. I believe the effect is the same here. It also claims to be beneficial when introducing new fish, but I haven't tried it. I will say, however, that I used to have a bunch of Japanese Trap Door snails, and they slowly disappeared over time; I'm not sure if it was because of this product or not, so if you have snails, you might want to look into that before using it. All in all, our water parameters are excellent right now, but I keep this on hand in case they change.
I ordered the 64 oz to treat the fish in my 1500 gallon Aquaponic system, and I just got it and was reading the instructions when I noticed that it says not to use it on fish intended for human consumption because it could expose them to known carcinogens. br>This information, in my opinion, should be included in the description.
The item arrived on time and was exactly what I needed; it's great to have a large tank option like this because most stores only have small bottles. When compared to buying multiple bottles in a physical store, the price was very reasonable.
Although the product was simple to use and the instructions were clear, I have yet to see any improvement in the problem it was intended to solve.
The price has risen in the last eight months, so if you find a good deal, take advantage of it. For aquarists, this is a must-have item.
Fin rot and other bacterial infections respond well to this treatment. It has a strong scent to it, but it isn't overpowering. In comparison to pet stores, this is an excellent value.
It appears that they enjoy it. This is something I've been doing for a long time.
