Yup, sticking out like that might make more noise, so I used a hacksaw to cut the lift tube so it would work better in a 20gl, but if you need a smaller version, then get the shrimp egg tumbler, it will also work for fish eggs.
I use it for this purpose, I cut the lift tube so it skims the surface in a 20gl, but they do make it smaller for shrimp, but they ship from China and that's why it's a little bit longer to get it.
