This is too small, in my opinion. There are some that are a little bit bigger.
No, it will float. The fish can get to the bottom tier despite only having one suction cup. They die. Purchasing this was a mistake.

I used hot glue to seal the side vents to keep small fry (like my Endlers) from swimming through them. The upper vents still allow water to flow through them. This is a fantastic product with this modification in place!.
However, as a breeding box, it is completely useless. Unless you weigh it down with a rock or something, the floor grate will float, and the lid will not stay on unless you weigh it down- It's also supposed to be cichlid-friendly. I had to remove the center partition to accommodate even a 3 inch fish. Worst of all, my mouthbrooder spit out her fry, which fell through the grate into the lower compartment as expected, but then swam right out of the gaps in the box's wall, where they were promptly eaten by the other cichlids: (It was a huge letdown. ).
I discovered a couple of baby platies in my tank and needed to find a way to keep them separate from the other fishes so they wouldn't be eaten. br>br>When I was looking into breeder boxes, I discovered that the majority of them had holes in the side through which the fry could escape. br>br>I bought this one because of the positive reviews and I am very pleased with it. Because there are no large holes on the sides of the mini tank, the frys are safe inside.
It helped me relax my Pixy Hawkfish. I had just added a melabarus wrasse, and he was terrorizing it. After about 5 days of isolation, his rage subsided, and all of my tankmates were able to coexist.
Guppies were purchased to be housed in this container. It was supposed to come with suction cups, but it didn't, but it seems to float when partially resting on a fake plant so far. Because the plastic grid that separates the top and bottom halves isn't removable, there's no way to clean out food or other debris that falls through to the bottom. When wet, the removable lid is difficult to grasp, but it must be removed in order to insert the tiny bits of food. The divider isn't necessary because mom isn't in the breeder tank, but I can't get rid of it. So far, no babies have escaped, and those that have are extremely small. It has protected the babies from being eaten, but that is about the only advantage it has. br>br>Update: after removing it from the tank and fiddling with it some more, I discovered that the dividers could be removed, resulting in a single large protected box for the fry. It's ideal because their mother isn't present. I would buy it again and tell a friend about it. This wouldn't have been necessary if there had been instructions included.
This product disappointed me so much that I had to return it. The fry swam right out of the sides and were devoured by the other guppies. I wouldn't recommend this for a guppy to give birth in because all of your fry will be eaten as soon as they swim out the sides of the boxes.
It is effective. It is stable on the wall and does not fall off. I think it's a little too close to the tank, and small fish like to get stuck, and I can't seem to keep air from getting under the handles and creating pockets in the water. br>The plastic is thin and easily broken, and it is ineffective for cherry shrimp (which is why I bought it). It would, however, work much better as a temporary box for mollies, guppies, or platies, or as an isolation box.
I was able to place the surviving fry in the breeder box after my female guppy gave birth to guppy fry. It's been a great success, and the babies have been raised for four weeks now.
