This is by far the most effective breeder box I've ever used! Two aspects of assembly took me a minute to figure out. The white stretchy bands are used to secure the panels together by wrapping them around the end tabs on the plastic panels. The suction cups, on the other hand, function as follows: You must first lightly attach the suction cups to the back panel, then press the suction cups against the glass, and finally tighten the suction cups against the glass by screwing the nuts down. After doing this, I kept the breeder box suctioned to the glass for nearly a month, and it never slipped or fell. I really like how large and spacious this breeder box is!.
My angel fish did not respond to this treatment. I scooped up the eggs that had been laid on a leaf and put them in the box. As the fry wiggled away from the leaf, they fell through or were sucked into the holes by the adult fish. When the babies learned to swim, they were able to pass through the holes. In a week, I went from having 50 babies to having none. For larger babies, this might be a good option.
Yes, both sides of the protective layer must be peeled away. Why do people write bad reviews and leave negative feedback before contacting a seller? That doesn't make any sense to me. Although the instructions are poor, it is simple to put together. Set up a tank within a tank and you've got yourself a perfect tank. Suction cups are wonderful, but the glass behind them must be spotless. To loosen the screw, push against the glass and then tighten it.
I had intended for it to hang on the short side of my 29 gallon aquarium, but the holes punched out of my top prevented it from fitting next to the filter I already had. This is a very generic setup in my opinion, and it would have fit if it had been a few mm skinnier. br>br>The hooks that go over the aquarium's lip are too big, especially since they don't hold the box's weight - This is accomplished through the suction cups. My only resting place is on the inside of the rim. I expected to have to crack the lid a little, but the amount seems excessive; I understand it's designed for a variety of tank types, but since I have a standard tank, it appears that a couple of mm could have been shaved off the top part of the hook, since it doesn't even hold any weight. br>br>Because the dividers don't sit flush against the bottom of the box, they shouldn't be used to keep the fries separated. I used one section to ensure that some otocinclus and pygmy corydoras became acclimated to the tank so that I could keep an eye on them, and because the corys were juveniles, they were close to fitting through but didn't. It would function without a hitch. For larger fish, there is no charge. br>br>Assembly was a breeze. as soon as the movies had finished. That was a huge pain, and it took 45 minutes just for that step between two people, and my thumb nail was beginning to rot. Using a blow dryer to heat it up was ineffective. br>br>From the description, I assumed the box would float or sink depending on the water level, but this is not the case. I can only take out 7 because you need to raise it to the actual level of your tank and it doesn't move. I used 5 gallons of water instead of 10 because the water level would be too low for any fish. I originally installed it too low, allowing a small fish to enter the box through the top feeding holes. It was a pain to raise it because you had to use a few tiny screws and washers, as well as retighten the suction cups, which were extremely tight. If you're trying to get a hose around in the tank to suck up poop while the box is suctioned, you won't be able to move it back and forth. Now that it's installed, I have to submerge my entire arm in the water to reach the filter sponge. br>br>I like how it's simple to photograph fish in the "naughty box" who need to be adopted. Again, it works well if you are aware of the design flaws, but it seemed so simple for them to consider these factors that I felt compelled to give it this rating.
I really like the size; it was perfect for me. People are expressing their dissatisfaction with the clear plastic. It is. However, removing the unseen plastic from both sides of each piece takes time. However, the most effective method of sterilization. I just wish there was a way to separate the fry after they give birth so that the mothers don't eat them. I removed it from the water and didn't want to disassemble my lid to re-assemble it, so there are some spots in the picture. It should be submerged.
I've used it twice now, and it folds up easily for storage. Although the rubber bands could be thicker (in my opinion), none of them have yet to break. The fact that it was so simple to clean was appealing to me. water, wine vinegar a sponge. I used it to house a BTA until it could be rehomed. Much easier to put together than a separate tank for a temperature solution. My purchase has satisfied me.
This is a great isolation/nursery box. It's roomy and sturdy. However, use caution when punching out the suction cup holes. The plexi is likely to crack. My piece cracked about halfway through, but it was still usable. When not in use, the box can be dismantled and stored flat. It was well worth the money. Don't forget to take off the protective covering from each piece before putting it together.
