Questions & Answers

What is your strategy for utilizing it?

I'm afraid it's a little more involved than "close your lips and blow." I got the first whistle out of it after about a day. The air flow next to a resonant cavity is disrupted by a sharp edge on a traditional whistle. When air passes over a sharp edge, vibration occurs, and frequencies that match the resonant cavity become loud. The volume under the whistle, which is blocked off by your lips and tongue, is the resonant cavity, in my opinion. br>To make a whistle, place the whistle in your mouth and seal off the area underneath with your tongue. The tip of the tongue is typically pulled back, and the back of the tongue presses against the back of the whistle. When you blow, air flows through the sharp opening at the top, causing sound to resonate at the correct frequency in the chamber at the bottom. You can change the frequency by moving the tongue forward slightly while keeping the seal. I haven't yet mastered the glow worm or whatever piece you prefer, but it's a possibility. I recommend going to YouTube and searching for shepherds whistles for more tips and encouragement. There are a few less technical explanations available, and I believe there are a couple of videos showing how to play a tune with the whistle.

Is it a metal or a plastic whistle?

Plastic is used to make this model.

This is a good place to start learning how to whistle like a shepherd
4/5

I'd never played a Shepherd whistle before, so I bought this one to learn on. In about 20 minutes, I was able to get some sound, and within a day, I was able to get consistent sound. I can now get both high and low pitched whistles on my third day. You should experiment with tongue position and keep in mind that even small changes can have a significant impact. Personally, I believe this is an excellent whistle to begin learning with in order to determine whether or not a Shepherd whistle is the best option for your dog training. "Trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is insanity," Albert Einstein once said. If you can't make sounds with this whistle after putting in at least 8 hours of effort, it's not for you. You're probably more into the referee/gun dog whistle.

Whistle is a useful tool for training
5/5

It's not the easiest or loudest whistle out there, but it gets the job done for the money. Because practice makes perfect, expect to take it with you when you travel in the car (assuming you are the only one). At the very least, you should be able to manage two octaves, if not more. Allow it to warm up in your mouth before using it, as cold plastic requires heat to function properly. If you've ever heard a shepherd's mouth whistle, you'll know what I'm talking about. br>br>I've made a lanyard for it so that when I'm not using it, it can hang around my neck. Overall, I'm happy with it. br>br> The price was reasonable, and it has proven to be durable enough for my needs thus far.

The price is reasonable, but the ease of use is lacking
3/5

However, the sound quality is excellent. The cost is reasonable; however, the ease of use is lacking; however, the sound quality is satisfactory. br>br>I've used nearly a dozen different makes, models, and brands of sheep dog whistles in the last 5 years as I've become more serious about the sport, and I'd compare this one to a $40,000 Ford Focus. Yes, it will complete the task, but there are less expensive alternatives. There are also BETTER options if you are willing to spend the money. br>br>This is my least recommended whistle because the plastic whistles, which cost $3 each, fill the "cheap" beginner niche, and the professional class, which costs $30 per whistle, is not far out of reach. That being said, I have the whistle and it works fine, but I am 100% sold on the Logan A1 whistle.

Whistle that is (probably) the loudest you can buy
5/5

I grew up with one in my pocket; it's a timeless design that performs admirably. When working with a sheepdog, this is exactly what every farmer (who can't whistle with their fingers) uses. br>Some people never seem to get the hang of them, so don't give up if you're having trouble.

It works
5/5

Whistle is made of plastic. In just a few minutes after watching a video, I was able to produce sound. It will take more practice to be able to reliably control pitch and volume, but no whistle will make it any easier.

There are no instructions included with the ACME Dog Whistle
3/5

I thought this ACMEE Shepard's Whistle, model 576, would be a simple way to make a whistle sound, so I purchased it on Amazon. My mouth isn't working as well as it used to, but I can't figure out how to get it to whistle? I have an American Collie and Shelties or Shetland Sheepdogs, but I also thought it would be fun to sing along with Eddie Arnold's cattle call song. However, no instructions were provided. It doesn't look like a whistle, does it? It's just a flat black plastic mouthpiece that doesn't do anything?.

It works, but it will take a lot of practice to get good at it. The dogs are staring at me right now - "What the hell is going on?" for example. "I can begin teaching them once I am able to consistently produce the same sounds. ".

I don't have the skills to make a lot of noise with this
5/5

I couldn't get even a squeak out of it, so I looked up how to use it on YouTube. It's like playing the flute, they said. Dropping a flute is the only way I can get it to make noise. I'm going to continue to work on it. I'm confident that once my mouth figures out what it wants to do, it will be fantastic.
