Questions & Answers

Is there a way to set specific boundaries, or is this just a radius perimeter? I don't want a circle because my yard is square?

Patricia, I appreciate your inquiry. The FieldTrainer 425X is only intended to be used for remote training. You can manually deliver a correction to discourage your dog from undesirable behavior or to call your dog back to you as long as the collar is within a 500 yard range of the remote.

Is the remote capable of being submerged in water?

Roxie, I appreciate your inquiry. This remote is completely waterproof and can be submerged in water for up to 25 feet.

Is it possible to use the bark option?

Because the 425 is a remote trainer, you'll need the remote to activate the beep, vibrate, or shock functions. This isn't a bark collar, so don't expect it to work.

Is the collar a decent size? I have a 7-month-old great dane who weighs 120 pounds. ?

Thank you for taking the time to ask such an interesting question. The collar strap can be adjusted to fit a neck circumference of up to 22". However, if your dog's neck is larger, you can remove the nylon strap and replace it with a longer collar that will fit.

Buyer beware when it comes to the model 425X
3/5

I've had the 425S for a couple of years and love it! I've never had a more dependable collar. So when I got a new puppy, I couldn't wait to try out the new 425X. I'm sorry to say, but I'm not impressed. The battery life, vibration strength, and remote are all excellent, but the device is completely unreliable. I noticed a lot of inconsistency in my dog's reactions when I was training him. I tested it on myself before using it, and it worked fine at first; however, after the first training session, I decided to test it on myself again because I couldn't figure out why my dog was reacting so strongly to the V/T function, which should only vibrate. I cringed when I saw what I saw. Even though the settings were the same, each time I pressed a button, it would perform a different action. I set it to V/T, and after pressing the same button a few times, instead of a vibration, it gave off a shock a few times. I set it to 1, then 2, and it would vibrate half the time, then the shock would be appropriate for the setting, then it would suddenly be the equivalent of a 5-star hotel. Shock of 6 levels The tone button was the only one that worked consistently and as it was supposed to. I'm so sorry I ever used this on my dog because, based on her reactions, I'm sure she was shocked pretty hard, even though I had it set to V/T while training her. If you're looking for a collar that will last, look no further. The 425S is a fantastic piece of equipment. However, if you simply want to shock your dog for no reason, the 425X is the way to go. The 425x hasn't been recalled, which is surprising. It's frightening that such a product exists.

Simply refuse and seek out the original model

If you enjoyed the 425-square-foot house, you'll enjoy the 425-square Do not purchase the XS if you are a size S. I regret purchasing the collar and recommending Sportdog collars to friends and acquaintances because they've taken away so much of its functionality. br>br>The previous model was excellent. I would never have needed or considered buying a new collar if the lanyard hadn't snapped and the remote had gone missing. br>br>An older model is: The remote had three functions after it was set up: Tones, nicks, and vibrations are all examples of tones, nicks, and vibration Each button has its own button. Other button names were available, but this is the one that I and everyone I know who has used it for dog training has found to be the most useful. New "X" model: br>br> Only two functions are available in the setup. Tones and vibrate, tones and nick, and vibrate and nick are all options. It is not possible to assign a different function to each button. br>br>An older model is: The tone had a higher volume. Both the vibrate and nick strength could be adjusted. New "X" model: br>br> When the dog is distracted, the tone is softer, and it's more difficult to get their attention. Previously, the vibration's intensity could be adjusted to your liking. It was the BEST attention getter for my dog when he was on the hunt for prey and to remind him of the property line; however, this new one fails to do so. She looks around now and then to see what has touched her, but it is never a safety precaution. br>br>I contacted the company because I was certain I had overlooked something while reading the owner's manual; "Of course, those features are still available!" I was hoping they'd say. We'd never get rid of the amazing, multifunctional, and extremely useful features! "br>br>Unfortunately, I did not misread the manual. They truly ruined an excellent product, and the reason for this is as follows: To allow a nick or vibrate to be sustained. br>br>If I had the option, I'd return this right away and go on eBay to look for an older model, even if it meant buying used. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to waste on shipping. br>br>I have an e-mail account. collar to aid in puppy training and early training for my balance and mobility service dog Raising puppies is extremely difficult for me because I am disabled. The e- I used to be able to "reach out and touch" a puppy that moved much faster than I could because I wore a collar. It's been a lifesaver in getting my other dog to stop chasing a deer. br>br>Not only is this new model of the collar less functional, but it also has a slight delivery delay. This, I believe, is due to the add-on. option of wearing a collar (I spent nearly $300 on their 825 model a few years ago while training a future police sniffer dog. ) Because that model is so bad, I reverted to my original e-mail address. When he started his official training classes, he gave away the 825 along with the puppy. That one has such a long delay that it renders the collar nearly useless. br>br>I'm well aware that Sportdog caters to the hunting crowd, and that Sportdog could care less about my opinion; However, potential buyers should be aware that the new model does not improve upon the previous one.

What went wrong with SportDOG? SportDOG collars have been a part of my training for the past ten years
3/5

I've purchased at least four systems during that time - as well as the odd system from a different vendor SportDOG has always been a pleasure to work with. Until now, that is. br>br>I recently purchased a "new" 425X system. After a few days, it died. I couldn't get it to turn on. Amazon quickly replaced it (kudos to Amazon!). However, this is not the most serious issue; all businesses experience product failures. The 425X is a significant upgrade over previous models. There are three buttons on the transmitter: They all, however, accomplish the same goal. The side button used to send a tone, and the front button used to send either a "nick" or continuous stimulation. When training a new dog, this is extremely useful. To begin, double-check that the dog comprehends the command. Give a tone if the dog does not respond to the verbal or hand signal. If you've done your job correctly, the dog's distraction will be interrupted, and its attention will be drawn back to the handler. If the dog still does not respond, a "nick" will usually suffice. I've only used continuous stimulation when a dangerous situation is imminent or when a particularly strong-willed individual is present. Animal with a strong will. But I'm getting ahead of myself. br>br> The three buttons on the 425X transmitter remain the same: BUT THEY ALL ACT IN THE SAME MANNER! Any button selected will send a tone if the knob is set to V/T. Any button will deliver a stimulation level if one is chosen. This serves no purpose and can be dangerous, for example, if the device is set to V/T mode (as it should be) and an emergency situation necessitates prompt stimulation delivery. br>br>I'm going to keep this piece of trash - to serve as a warning to owners of training systems not to do so I'm going to start looking into other systems and reviewing them. Keep an eye out for my feedback.
