I only use the electric function on rare occasions because the vibration is usually enough to persuade my dog. It's difficult to figure out how to put it to good use. It works extremely well once you understand how it works and how to set everything up. I have the shock level set to a low level. I'm not sure how long it will last. I had the yellow one for about a year and a half. After that, I didn't use it for nearly two years. When I got a puppy and she turned one year old, I wanted to use it again. I was unable to make the yellow one work. Because the product is so expensive, I had hoped it would last longer. However, I needed to replace it.
