Anal leakage resulted from using Snout Soother. Updated on December 3, 2020: So, it's been more than two years since I first tried this product, and my pup has tried a variety of foods, chewed many bones, including cow hoof and buffalo horn, and consumed a variety of dog treats, and guess what? There hasn't been any butt leakage since the last time I checked. I appreciate the concerned commenter who questioned my review because I did not conduct a double-blind study to evaluate this product, but I stand by my conclusion. This product did not work for my dog and caused him to leak his butt, but it clearly did for others. br>br>I'll start with a product that I think will help with a dry nose. The vet recommended applying LIQUID VITAMIN E to the nose, which we were able to find at a typical vitamin store. The consistency (warm syrup thickness) is far more pleasant to apply to the nose than the tin, and it has no scent. After that, a couple of licks are all that's required. br>br>And now for Snout Soother's review. I was drawn to the fact that it was fragrance-free, but when it arrived, it smelled strongly of herbs. I suppose "fragrance free" means there isn't any added fragrance, but the herbal scent was quite strong and seemed to encourage licking. It made his nose softer after two weeks of use, but only if I used the cream on a consistent basis. His nose immediately dried up when we came to a halt. I also noticed that his bowels were becoming affected by his constant licking and ingestion of the cream. He started having anal leakage and has been smelling awful ever since. br>br>We've been off the cream for a week and are now using vitamin E instead. His nose is staying moist for longer after a few days of vitamin E treatment, and he is showing signs of healing.
This is highly recommended by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Maisey) for the dreaded barnacle Boxer snout. Until March 2019, when she was rescued, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel worked as a puppy mill momma. Her mother, who was scarred and had a bad case of barnacle nose, tried everything from coconut oil to chapstick and everything in between. The barnacle, however, was still present. Maisey used to hide her snout behind her paw, but that was no longer the case. Since using Snout Soother, she proudly displays her beautiful Boxer snout! It not only softened and beautified her snout, but it also softened the calluses on her elbows and paws as a result of living in a cage for five years. br>br>We've always thought Maisey was lovely (even with her barnacle snout), but now she realizes it herself. Each morning, she sits contently for her "nosey butter beauty treatment. " br>br>Thank you for transforming this once-broken puppy mill Momma with the barnacle snout into the stunning Mrs. Maisel that she is now. br>br>And, last but not least, ADOPT AND RESCUE! br>Avoid pet stores and breeders when purchasing. Puppy mills must be eliminated at all costs.
We ordered this over a year ago, so we've had plenty of time to try it out and assess it. br>br>We have an older Pomeranian who has idiopathic hyperkeratinosis (an unidentified cause of a keratin-based crusty nose), which is common in senior dogs. There is no "cure" for this, and it appears that there is no way to prevent it, but it can be treated. br>br>On an as-needed basis, we apply Snout Soother. When a crust forms on his nose, he feels the need to use it on a regular basis. We rub it in for a few days to allow it to penetrate. Soften the keratin, and the crust will eventually fall off as more Soother is applied. We'll check in with him again in a day or two to make sure his nose is soft and ready to heal. br>br>Our dog enjoys the flavor, and it doesn't matter if it gets licked off if you rub it in for 5 minutes or so each time. Allowing the Soother to soften the keratin until it is ready to fall off is critical. It's possible that if it's knocked off before it's ready, your dog will get a bloody nose. nose that hurts br>br>I haven't found it to be a preventative because the keratin will grow when it wants to (because that's what his body does), but it is extremely useful for removal. br>br>I like how it's made with food-grade ingredients and can be consumed by "humans. " br>I've seen a few people ask why they should use this instead of Vaseline in the reviews. The simple answer is that you won't be treating your skin as if it were treated with Vaseline. Allowing your dog to eat petrochemical byproducts is a bad idea. Why should they be treated with a cheap and ineffective treatment when their lives are already so short? food-grade product?br>br>The Snout Soother tin appears to be pricey, but we've found that a little goes a long way after using it. We're only about a third of the way through the tin a year later. If your dog suffers from hyperkeratinosis (crusty nose), I recommend trying this product. We had success with it. If it doesn't work for your dog, you can rest assured that you tried a high-quality remedy, and the next step is to consult your veterinarian.
We have a boxer, and the top of her nose developed a ridge, but our vet never mentioned it, and we had no idea it was due to dry skin. One night, I was googling about it and ended up on the manufacturer's website, where I immediately placed an order on Amazon. It was nearly impossible to keep our boxer from licking it off her nose, but it worked with the small amount that was left afterward. After only a few days of use, I tossed the open container on my bedside table and went to the bathroom to wash the salve off my hands. I have a toddler at home, and she began to do what toddlers do, and I became completely distracted, completely forgetting about the open container on my comforter. My dog, on the other hand, did not have the same luck. Later, when I returned upstairs, I discovered the open tin on the floor, completely (and I mean COMPLETELY) licked clean. So. My dog adores it, and I'm grateful for the natural ingredients that won't make her sick. I'll be ordering more (and making sure I close the lid every time).
