Kathy, the small brush has a 4 inch wide head and a 7 inch long handle. My dogs aren't small, but I like the small brush to get around the neck, chest, and leg areas because the bristle area is 2 3/4 x 2 inches wide. However, I believe that this is a matter of personal taste. The hair is removed by pressing down on a button on the small brush I own. I hope this has been of assistance.

There's no need to press the button all the way down. Simply press the button once, and the bristles will click into place and stay in place, allowing you to brush your dog. When you press the button again, the bristles will retract, leaving any hair in the bristles to be easily cleaned.

I have a short-haired dog who I believe is too sensitive to the sharp edges. He didn't like it when I used it for more than ten strokes at a time. I guess it irritates his skin after a while, and he starts to walk away. br>br>UPDATE: br>As a result of my review, the company refunded my money. My dog will not be able to use the product, so I will donate it to the shelter where he spent the majority of his life prior to my adoption. I'm now considering what else I can get for my dog from The Pet Portal. Jude, thank you so much! More businesses like The Pet Portal are needed!.
This brush arrived today, and we immediately put it to the test on our three dogs. It was a hit with everyone, including our newest canine addition - mother - The chihuahua of the law. When I was brushing certain areas on their back near the tail, the dogs made content noises and moved their hind legs in an amusing way, as if to say, "Oh yes, that's the right spot!" )br>br>The brush bristles do not appear to scratch their skin in any way. Of course, the amount of effort you put in varies depending on the dog breed and the type of fur they have; I lightly brushed the chihuahua, and she loved it. br>br>I also like how the button snaps the brush's bristles into the "on" position and keeps it there - You don't have to hold the button down all the time, as I've seen on other models. When you're finished, simply press the button again to retract the bristles completely, leaving you with a neat rectangular wad of fur that easily slides off the brush. In conclusion: br>br> I like how easy it is to use and how effective it is, and the dogs like how it feels! We'll be using it on a daily basis from now on. Five out of five stars, two thumbs up, and twelve paws up!.
This brush has truly transformed my life! We recently acquired a large malamute puppy with thick, fluffy fur. I had a slicker brush from "pet zoom" that kept getting caught and stuck in his fur. I was under the impression that all slicker brushes were the same, but the breeder assured me that she used slicker brushes. I'm not sure how I came across this brush, but I'm glad we purchased it! It's fantastic, and it glides right through his thick puppy fur. If I don't brush him a few times a week, his hind legs appear to be matted. After I brush him with this brush, he always feels so soft!.
How much of a difference could there be between slicker brushes? It turns out that there's a lot more to it than you might think. This one has a thoughtful and one-of-a-kind design. br>br>After I'd handed in my first self-assessment, The tines would bend and get stuck behind the self-cleaning slicker brush, so I took it to one of the big box pet stores twice. I began looking for a higher quality brush after the cleaning part rendered the brush completely useless. I'm the proud owner of a Great Pyrenees - a large, white, fluffy dog-like creature - She's also in desperate need of a good brush. br>br>My old brush was designed with the tines remaining stationary while the self-cleaning mechanism was pushed up and down the tines to collect the brushed-on debris. out fur. The tines would sometimes become stuck behind the grill, or they would bend and not fit back through the grill properly, rendering the brush useless. This brush is the polar opposite of the previous one. the barbecue - part of the body where the fur collects - While the tines are moving, the object remains stationary. The tines are locked in place throughout the grill while you brush. The tines are then released, allowing them to return to their original position behind the grill. The brush's tines are hidden behind the grill when it's not in use. br>br>What this means is that the tines have a lower chance of being damaged - You're keeping them safe inside the brush and not yanking on them as you remove the fur. It's a far superior design, and I'm confident that this brush will outlast my previous one.
I have a mini double doodle (a glorified VERY expensive mutt that's half mini goldendoodle and half mini labradoodle) with a tight wavy coat and then an obscene number of cats because I can't say no when I see their cute little faces. br>br>I've gone through way too many slicker brushes to even try to come up with an accurate estimate, but this is truly the first one I've ever liked, and I br>br>Every self-cleaning brush I've used in the past has failed to clean itself properly. They bring the hair to the top of the brush, but leave it about a quarter inch in the bristles. There's no fighting to get the hair out of the brush with this one because it brings the hair all the way up above the bristles. It's true "self-cleaning," and it's everything to me. br>br>I have arthritis in my hands, but it doesn't hurt to hold it or use it because there is a difference. And, as an added bonus, brushing my animals does not harm them. br>br>And now for the best part. It did, in fact, remove hair. It's a lot! My previous slicker brush would rake up a lot of hair and catch some of it, but leave the majority of it loose on my animals' coats. This one catches the loosened hair. It feels great to have a mound of hair in the trash can instead of on my clothes and furniture. br>br>So, to the designers, I believe you are the gods of pet brushes. Thank you for putting your skills to good use and making brushing time more enjoyable and productive.
My cat prefers to be brushed above all other cats, but this brush takes the cake. My cat has a lot of hair on her body and sheds a lot. You couldn't pet him without getting a handful of hair in return. He was greasy and dirty, with small mats in his undercoat, and after 30 minutes with this brush, he felt like a completely different cat. Now, it's not much different than a regular slicker brush, but the ability to clean it quickly is what sets it apart for me. He's impatient, and if you take too long to clear the brush, he'll get bored and walk away. It's a great product that I would highly recommend.
