Without a doubt. On my Great Pyrenees, it works like a charm!
In comparison to the Furminator, I prefer the Oster rake. We have a Great Pyrenees/Husky mix that has the appearance and fur of a giant Golden Retriever. The Oster rake is much better than the Furminator in my opinion. I hope this has been of assistance.
I'm only going to use the rake on my dog for a few weeks. Sharpness isn't necessary for the working principle to work. It is extremely popular with my Golden Retriever. I believe I would continue to use it indefinitely.
It would be appropriate because the Newfoundland is a long-haired dog. Because my dogs (Australian Cattle Dogs) have short hair, it doesn't work very well. It is effective at loosening the undercoat, making it easier to comb out.

I bought it on the advice of a friend who used to work as a professional dog groomer, and I'm glad I did. I hope these suggestions are useful not only for this tool, but for others in your home as well. I've spent more money on similar wooden handle rakes, but this one is the best for me. I have three dogs: a Newfoundland, a Great Pyrenees, and a Pomeranian, so I've put in a lot of miles! Plus, a name like Oster conjures up images of quality in my mind.

The best rake in the world. It's difficult for me to get the undercoat off my Australian Shepherd. I believe he sheds every day of the year.
