Questions & Answers

Soon, we will be getting a 9-week-old shih tzu puppy. Will his little paws have any trouble with this 1/2 floor grate while he's still young?

Ours is used as a dachshund whelping kennel. Early on, we usually add blankets and bedding to the Puppy Playpen, as well as a heating pad or heat lamp above the kennel. Our dogs that are typically under 10 pounds as adults have no problem with the narrow grate floor by the age of eight weeks. The Puppy Playpen is also used as a nighttime kennel for our adult dogs, with bedding in one section. This is also a good use of it.

I have a puppy who will most likely live to be 50 years old. Is a large cage suitable for a 70-pound dog?

I keep puppies in this cage until they are four months old. 9 weeks of age. They are now 12 pounds and have reached the maximum weight limit for this cage, as my dogs will eventually weigh in at around 50 pounds.

Is this something that could be used by biddies? Is it possible that the giants' feet are too big for them?

This is a cage I would never recommend. It rusts in a very short period of time. It may be appropriate for older children, but not for newborns. They might be able to get past the bars. The floor would be too large for their feet as well. It would be ideal if they were a little older. The design of this cage is good, but the pans are flimsy and break easily, and it rusts quickly, as I previously stated.

Hello, guys! I recently acquired a maltese puppy; which grid spacing size would you recommend for my Mr. Snugglybuns, if you're more experienced dog owners?

For more than 25 years, I've been raising show cockers. We had a whelping box attached to the Midwest cage, so the puppies could walk on the small square grid when they were old enough to follow Mom into the cage. The 1/2 in grid has a major flaw: our pups can't fit into it. Even adult cockers' toes got stuck in the 1/2-inch grid on a regular basis. Surprisingly, even puppies can learn to walk on a small square grid. The square grid was far safer in our experience!

Small dogs are at risk
3/5

I don't like it, and I'm very frustrated about it. This pen is a hazard to dogs and a liability. My dog's toes slipped through the bottom grate, causing him to break both of his toes. He's part of an ensemble of eight. 10 weeks. The cast is changed every week, and the patient is medicated and in pain. This is a small-dog-specific item. The space between the bottom panel and the top panel should be much smaller. I've already spent over $1,000 on broken toes. This is a dog kennel that should not be purchased.

This made weaning the Labradoodles so much easier for me! I've been breeding puppies for a long time and have never found a method that works to keep the puppies clean while they're being weaned
5/5

Pine shavings in a baby pool, puppy pads (which they love to tear up), and butcher paper have all been tried. You name it, and it's there. Nothing worked to keep the little darlings clean until I came across this fantastic device. It was incredibly simple to assemble, and nothing was broken or damaged, despite what some of the reviews claimed. I chose puppy pads for the bottom pans, and it's a dream to just slide them out, discard the old pads, and replace them with clean, new ones. I like how the shelf can be raised or lowered, and I like how I can get to it in a variety of ways. Because they are too small to climb up over the top, I prefer to leave it flopped open and move them around or play with them. I added a large Midwest snap on crate water dish and a snap on travel lickit water bottle, as well as a smaller whelping pad that I folded in fourths and placed in a corner for a sleeping puppy pile, and I've ordered some smaller washable crate pads to replace the whelping pad. I threw in a ball, a toy plastic cup from my granddaughter, and a soft workman's glove so they could play tug-of-war. This is one happy pack of puppies, and there's no mess to clean up. I also keep a roll of paper towels on hand to quickly dispense loose poos and push them through before hasty paws leave a mark. There are no more stinky puppies to deal with when I have visitors. On delivery day, I purchased a second smaller size for the back of the car because I adore this unit. I couldn't be more pleased! This is a must-have for any breeder! I'll keep you updated as time goes on. br>Recent changes: This item has been in my possession for over a year. When it's made properly, there's a lot to like, but there are some issues related to dangers that I need to mention, and I recently purchased a couple more small pens for transporting, and the quality and condition of the pens were definitely poor, with door latches that were crooked, not matching up and making it nearly impossible to open and close, as well as the grate having terrible spacing that was either too wide or too small, allowing more problems for small paws to My main gripe is that I almost lost three puppies to strangulation. Puppies can climb or jump high enough to pop the lid up, get their heads stuck, and choke to death if you don't literally and tightly latch the top lid down. As I turned my back to get water to fill their dishes, this happened three times in the span of a few seconds. Not good! I've also had puppies get their jaws caught between the spaces on the sides of the cages on two occasions. So. If you are not going to use a visual and sound baby monitor (which is what I use), I strongly advise you not to use these cages if you are not going to be monitoring them 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Because of these issues, I would not recommend them for anything other than transport; instead, I would recommend a playpen yard layout with hard plastic baby playpens that are safe for puppies and have less risk of strangulation or teeth becoming stuck in the sides. Plastic is far more forgiving than metal when it comes to a puppy's gnawing teeth, and it can mean the difference between a broken jaw or tooth. I now use the hasps to secure the top lids because even hooking them over won't keep a curious puppy from popping them off, attempting to climb out, and getting their heads stuck between the two overlapping lids. Because they're so dangerous, I'm not going to buy any more for my kennels. Another reason this item is no longer on my favorites list is the poor quality of the two I recently purchased for transportation, and they are not cheap! When I first bought the large, I paid well over $321.

Awesome! There were nine labs in the litter
5/5

This device truly saved my life. The money spent was well spent. We made do with newspaper and puppy pads, which worked out perfectly. The only drawback is that waste can get caught in the grate from time to time, but this is a minor annoyance when compared to other puppy pens!.

The issue of flooring is a major one
3/5

The problem with the wire flooring is that it is difficult to clean. Instead of being installed side by side, the wire flooring folds into each other, making it impossible to assemble on your own. With lightweight pups (10), the wire flooring eventually becomes like a trampoline. br>In comparison to previous models, the pen wire gauge is less dense. br>There is a piece that fits over the floor pans that, in theory, prevents things from falling in between the pans. This, however, is negated by the fact that it is so simple to clean. We had to use twist ties to keep the top in place.

Fantastic crate with only one minor flaw that can be easily corrected
5/5

This is an excellent puppy crate because it prevents them from sitting on the floor. It's a good size, so they can use half of it for sleeping and the other half for bathroom use. The only disadvantage is that it can scratch hardwood floors. This can be easily fixed by cutting any "Rubber Fuel Hose" with an inner diameter of 1/4" into one-inch pieces. This can be purchased at a big box store or on Amazon. I also used furniture pads to protect the bottom of the crate pan.

Md/Lg Breed Litters are not safe to use
3/5

I really wanted these to be a part of my breeding arsenal. It's an excellent idea. Unfortunately, the final product is of poor quality. I ordered two pens, and both of them arrived with both trays (4 total) broken in the corner. The pen material is flemish and weak, which isn't a good start. The floor is unable to support any weight and easily collapses. While I was trying to put it together, it kept collapsing. These are simply not suitable for litters of medium to large breeds. I'm afraid I won't be able to use them on my puppies. There's far too much risk of getting hurt. The floor could collapse under the weight of just the puppies; this is fine for a small breed puppy or two, but not for a medium or large breed puppy, and certainly not for more than two or three small puppies.

This is an excellent crate for puppies and small dogs! It's fantastic! While I'm at work, it provides plenty of space for my little rat terrier puppy, and the grate at the bottom keeps her area clean until I return! It's simple to set up and transport, as well as durable and easy to clean
4/5

I also recommend the bolt-on bowls, which are inexpensive and of excellent quality (and prevent your dog from spilling the contents!). br>br>I'm taking a star off because some of the edges aren't filed down well enough and can easily cut your fingers or hands. I kept closing the latches, and I got a nice little cut that irritated me all day. I wouldn't mind a minor scratch, but I've had a couple of slices that were extremely painful to touch for several days. br>br>However, it's a bit heavier duty than slightly cheaper crates, and with the grate on the bottom, it's a fantastic value for a crate that will keep your pup clean and last a long time! It's very sturdy and gives my little pup plenty of room!.
