A large leash that I have for my dog broke in two places. The only flaw I found in this TUG leash makes me buy a third. It is the strongest I have found so far except for one - it is not retractable. This needs to be redesigned by TUG. Considering the exploded view, you can clearly see on the inside of the spool, right about the 7 o'clock position, there is a steel pin that joins the spool to the leash. I have taken apart the two leashes my dog has broken, and I see that the pin on both ends of the spool does not go all the way through the spool. By definition, the pin only travels through the spool on one side but stops against the plastic on the other. As a result, it is supported at only one end. I realized that over time my dog's pulling bent the plastic support of the pin, which then allowed the nylon leash to slip off the pin and become When that point comes, the pin's support base is damaged, and even if you can get the leash back on it (through the opening, which I have done), it is no longer firmly attached to the pin. There should be two supports on both sides of this pin so that it goes completely through the spool. Although my dog is 55 pounds, he is extremely tall and strong due to his low center of gravity. Other than the pin design, this is a superb leash. My dog weighs 55 pounds, but the large leash has broken twice.

We have a wild dog that can really wear a leash because of the amount of stress she puts on it, so I generally replace them after a year or two rather than wait for a leash to break. Since the handle on this leash is wider than her previous leash, I feel more confident it will hold up to her mischief. The skin on my palms is fairly large for a 6'4" person. It has a big handle that I can comfortably hold it without getting cramped up in my fingers even when wearing winter gloves. Unlike any leash I've previously used, the brake button is a lot larger, and I can use it very comfortably. The angle of the handle makes it easy for me to restrain her without straining my wrist.

I love the customer service in the UPDATE 6/1/19 This is still a five-star rating! After 9 months, I had a few issues with the leash. I received a response via email from the company within 30 minutes of contacting them. As a result, I was emailed in the next email to inform me that a new product would be sent to me right away. The new product arrived today and I am thrilled with it. Besides being a good leash, the leash has a warranty that's backed up by the company, and that's what makes all the difference. It's a good design! The comfortable grip and smooth operation make it a pleasure to hold. A temporary lock would be very easy for anyone with weak hands or arthritis to open and lock, so I could see it being extremely helpful for such people.
